New to zoommm fellas, can i get a little schooling lol

:
2002 Mazda Protege 5
Whats up mazda heads, just got my first MAZDA after having about 21 hondas,,,lol anways i just picked up an 2002 mazda pr5 it has sunroof and roofrack, clocking in 90k, I got it for 5k and its in really good shape besides, a couple dings,,,
Now with that being said, can anybody school me on known issues with these cars,(its auto) and what things/parts need special attention, or more than often maintanence...
the only things that has me skeptical about the car is 3 things
1. when turning on the car in the morning to warm up its seems like the fan turns on and off intermintently, is that normal?
2. when the car is fully warmed up for about the first 5 minutes from the tranny switching from 1st to second, i feel like the tranny should switch alot smoother but idk??
3. while warming up the car, the idle bounces down and up quite a bit till its fully warmed up, doing a full tune up tomar,,,,just wanted some insight...
p.s Is a tranny flush and change of the filter beneficial for the cars performance at 90k,,,i know previous cars i had the manufacturer did not recommend a flush, only a change of the tranny oil,,,all help would be very appreciated thank you

Welcome!

Not too sure about your first 2 problems, but the idle problem could be cause by quite a few things. First I would try plugs and wires, those always need to be changed. Next, if you have a stock intake, I would check all the plastic tubing for cracks. Then if that doesn't fix it, I would jump to the EGR valve and/or IAC and clean/replace those.

3. you should be idling at around 1500 upon start up (warm up), then once you get going, it will drop down to around 750 idle. When you talk about changes on the tachometer, what changes do you see?

Seafoam it. I like to seafoam a used car I get. Do the 3-part system in the gas tank, oil, and the brake booster line. This will help idle, fuel injection, shifting, and more! PM me if you need any tips on how to seafoam, or how it works.
