New to the forum. Not new to owning a P5.

I've had my P5 for 8 years now. Love it. It has no mods...well, actually, that's not true. I just upgraded my headlamp bulbs to Sylvania Xtravision...try not to be too impressed.

I joined the forum today to search for info on how to get my keyless entry remote working again...wow, there's a lot of posts to search through. I should get busy.

is your remote not working for any of your doors? if so, you got some searching to do and i cant help you there. but if it's only one of your doors then its the door lock actuator. i had that issue a few months back, had to manually unlock the door with the key from the outside. replacing it isnt too terribly difficult, just gotta get the door apart basically. and the part costs something like $60ish if i remember correctly.

oh, and wow! xtravisions! nice upgrade! lol just messing with you, not everyone wants to mod their car, its a personal thing.

It doesn't appear to be working for any of the doors...I did the obvious thing first - changed the battery, but that wasn't it. I did find an interesting post here on the forum, though, by mx-p5 that outlined the process for re-programming the remote to the car. Here's what he/she said:

"Yup, turn the key, but don't start the car

do that on to off 3 times, then press the door jam button 3 times


Car should then cycle lock/unlock, then press a button on the remote

then shut the door and let the car cycle again


That'll be $108 please. That's waht Mazda will charge ya"

I haven't tried it yet.

As far as mods, I'm not necessarily opposed to them, but I see a Mazdaspeed3 in my near future so I will hold off putting any cash in the P5 for now. Thanks for your reply.

ahh the mazdaspeed3 is a great great car. good step up from the protege5 lol (i went to a jeep and soon will also get a miata).

but yeah, give that a shot, the re-programming the remote that is. hey, what will it hurt? you turning the key three times lol

This solved the problem for me except you have to push the button on the remote TWICE. Man, that thing hasn't worked in years! I've been opening my door the old fashioned way all this time! I feel like a dope ;-)

Funny, I went from a Jeep (Wrangler) to the P5. And I'd love to have a Miata for springtime driving. That would be fun!

lol thats what i'm going for. i'd love to get one with a blown engine around here for like $500, but i cant seem to ever find them. i can do a rebuild at my buddy's house in a weekend. that'll be happening hopefully once a)the weathers nice and b)the money starts coming in!

What's great about a P5 is that they only made them for two years. It's kind of exclusive

oh and just a little irony...i installed a headunit, sub and amp today. well while working on the wiring harness for the headunit, i found an extra yellow wire from the stock wiring harness. not thinking it was anything cause everything else worked properly, i capped it and called it a day.

come to find out hours later, it was the ******* line for the alarm and keyless entry remote. sonofabitch. so instead of freezing my butt off for 5 minutes, i decided to say ef it and i'm doing it tomorow. also building a custom sub box for a 10" infinity sub i've had for years, just never used cause its dual voice coil...and a box for that prebuilt is a LOTTTTT
