I was sick of my torqueless 06 si and needed more room for my new job. the speed3 seemed like exactly what i was looking for in a car. So what are the good and bad things about this car/motor?? Im seeing issues with the tranny, is this really an issue, do the trannys suck?? are there any other things i need to know about this car before i start modding it?? thanks!!!

The shifter won't feel as good as your Si that's for sure...it has a rubbery feel to it, but you'll get used to it in no time. I can't find much to gripe about besides that. I love this car waay too much! :)

The torque the MS3 has will make you forget about all the negatives though.

are there any upgrades for the shifter yet?? new cables short shifter kit, brass shifter bushings ect..???

damn dude... probably would've been better to research this stuff before buying the car. fortunately for you, this car kicks all kinds of ass and is by far the best bang for the buck (in this class). so... no chance of buyer's remorse.

but anyway... welcome aboard. this will be a great place for you to learn more about this car.. and what's available for it.

since I don't have one (yet) I can't speak from experience.... haven't heard of any probs with the trans.... I will defintiely agree with the shifter. the one in the Si was amongst the best I've ever driven. (the MS3 is just avg) but you quickly get over that....

as far as mods go.. I'm sure others would agree that the first mod should be a CAI. it was my first mod on the MSP and really made a big difference.... doesn't seem like there's much of a diffference between the MS version and the Injen (other than the price... injen's a lot less expensive) so if you're looking for a nice, easy, cheap mod to get you started.. that might be something to look into.

anyway... congrats on the purchase.. you definitely made the right move.

So when are you getting yours CHICO?

Most common things done
intake
exhaust (downpipe, midpipe, cat back, etc.)
Shifter bushings and short shifter
upgraded torque mount
better tires ;)

Some people are also using manual boost controllers and fuel cut defenders to up the performance as there isn't a plug and play piggyback or standalone engine computer out there yet. CP-E is close with their but you have to hack apart your factory wiring harness.

Coming from a honda background you probably don't know some of the more reputable companies that make stuff for our cars.... I would check out places like custom performance engineering, corksport and cobb. We are all still eagerly waiting for cobb to release more goodies for us, but in the meantime corksport and cpe have quite a bit out. Do a google search for any of those companies and you'll hit their homepages. Also check out protege garage, i think they are one of the sponsors on this board, they are pretty spiffy.

As far as issues with the car, the first speed3s that went out had problems with one of the bolts in one of the engine mounts breaking, causing the engine to fall out of the car, but thats an issue that has been pretty much addressed. They aren't selling the cars with that issue anymore, the dealer will have fixed that for you already.

There are ONLY three bad things about this car.
1)Shifter is a little soft, this can be fixed
2)FWD + Torque = :(
3)It is way too easy to go WAY too fast and get into a lot of trouble

Aside from that, you made a great choice, enjoy the new car and get an intake on it ASAP!

wow you guys are alot cooler than the honda crowd, hahaha . they just would have cussed me and told me to search. Sorry ima lazy ass when it comes to searching, thanks for being understanding, you guys are great. so Intake and short shifter will me my first mods. what kinda power can you get from doing an intake,TBE, and a few more pounds of boost????

Somebody just asked this same question on another new thread and I will tell you what I just told him. The MS CAI has been tested on a dyno and the increase is about 25hp at the wheels. If you put on a CBE, expect around 5 more hp.

As for tweaking the turbo, I will let some of the more brave souls give you that advice... (beer)
