Stock shifter is threaded on so it screws on tight. With set screws the knob just slides down the shaft (this sounds erotic) and the set screws are tightened to hold the knob in place. There are three set screws with this shift knob and I have had zero issues. To some this is a pain because you need to keep an allen key with the car if you ever have to remove the shift knob.

think the guy would make a custom set that has a thread instead of a screw? i hate non thread knobs, they always pull off the shaft when its really not the best of times

Yeah, this thing is great! What I did for the set screws - I wrapped electrical tape around the shifter, just like twice, and screwed the set screws into it - so far, about 40 days with no loosening!

It was blind luck finding this, the guy had them on ebay for pretty much just German cars, but there were enough different styles that I posed the question, and 2 weeks later, voila!!!

BTW it's easiest I think to use the cigarette lighter ring to power this puppy.

Very Very Nice any idea how heavy it weighs :D

This is the guys Ebay store:

He speaks very broken English but if you mention the Mazdaspeed shift knob he will know what you are talking about. It took about 2 weeks to get it here in Canada which was faster than expected for a custom made piece coming from Poland.

It does use set screws though. So some might be turned off by that.

What do you mean by use set screws?
