New P5 owner checking in.

Hey guys, just a quick introduction.

Some of you may remember my post about picking up a P5 from out of state:
http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123667384

A lot of members cautioned against the deal, citing the "too good to be true" mantra (understandable). I had the vehicle inspected at a Mazda dealership and it got a clean bill of health. Today I made the 650 mile round trip to pick th car up. I thought it was 200 each way, but forgot Autotrader uses straight-line distance, not driving distance, in your search radius.

The car is a Carfax certified 1-owner vehcile with 60k on the clock. The interior is MINT and there are just a few very minor flaws outside, even less than I would have expected . . . it looks great! No rust anywhere. Drives great and everything works as it should except the keyless entry. It actually seems just as tight, if not moreso, than the Mazda certified pre-owned sample I looked at locally.

I paid $8k out the door, which included all doc fees and taxes and a full tank of gas, so I think I got a great deal! If I decided I hated the car tomorrow, i could still make a nice profit I think . . .but I already love the car! Too tired to take pics now, and I slaughtered about 7000 bugs on the trip home. Just wanted to say "Hi" and thanks for all the pre-purchase info you have already provided.

Reprogram of the keyless entry is easy as cake....a search of the forums could help...Search for "key fob instructions" or "programming Keyless entry" it's like a ten step, fairly straightforward process....

And welcome...

I missed your first thread and just read through it. Congrats on getting it and GL with it. And as you are already aware there is a lot of good info to be found here.

Now get some rest, wash it and post some pics!! hahaha

I've been moderating a Prelude forum for several years now, so I've pretty much learned that there isn't many (if any) questions a new owner could come up with that have not already been discussed at length multiple times. I'm an avid "searcher". First changes are going to be tint, a short antenna, and some audio upgrades with a sneaky subwoofer setup.

Sound like a killer deal man! I paid that for my car out the door with way way way more miles then that on it. BTW doyou have any pictures?

Patience my friend. I just got back into town after a nearly 12 hour trip, on not much sleep from the night before. Besides, night time pics dont do that red any justice!

Congrats! and welcome again to the forum. Keep us updated on the mods. I recommend of few performance mods to start of with, will make you like the car even more(CAI, exhaust, headers).

Yes search can be your friend, but if you can't find it....ask!! Which you already know that too. Don't know what you had in mind for a short antenna but check out the CX-7 one. Here's a pic of one on my c-red to give you a good idea.

Mazdaspeed777 mentioned some good performance mods but here is another aesthetic one a lot of P5 owners have done. Mazda6 rear wiper conversion...easy to do and you can get the 'kit' from Jason at http://www.onlinemazdaparts.com

. . . replaced a dead battery in the one key fob I was given, followed the programming instructions found on the site, and now everything works as it should! Thanks! Second key fob ordered from Ebay. Where can I get the genuine "Mazda" key blanks and not just generic ones?

Working on cleaning the gunk from the drive home off, hopefully will get some pics today or tomorrow.

sounds awesome man... i'm not even going to get off that cheap and i'm buying my P5 from my parents

and totally agree with you about the search button... i typically just read as many posts as i can and store the knowledge away for later... too bad i don't have 100% recall though... i could have my own internal "search button"... but i'd name it differently, i'd call it my "button of enlightenment"... hahaha... jk jk

I might be interested in the Stock sub when you upgrade...
Some pics of it would be real helpful.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Less than a week into ownership, I'm pretty damn satisfied with the purchase; this little car scoots!

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your stance), I didn't have the stock subwoofer. Through the WTB section, I've located the plastic panels that raise the floor several inches. I plan to use them, with some modifications, to house a 5 channel amplifier. Raising the floor would also allow me to make a subwoofer in the stock location, but using a decent 8" or 10" driver. Or, I could go with the side-panel enclosure. I've been doing fiberlgass enclosures for some time now, so I can get kinda creative.
