2006 MS6 Sport
Hello to all, I look foward to learning everything your willing to teach a complete novice.
Should be taking delivery on the 1st of November, She's black and absolutely gorgeous inho..

After $2500.00/$1000.00 in dealer incentives/Mazda Financing plus another $1000.00 because we walked out the door to soon to suit the sales manager, paid $23,450.00. Msrp was $28750.00.

My first Mazda was an 83' 626 2dr coupe, 5-speed with the 4 cylinder engine, drove that car until she got plowed over by a big Lincoln. Had 210,000 miles and was still running well in her old age.

In 2000, bought the wife a used 98' 626 4dr w/5 speed and the 6 cylinder engine, I must say this engine was quite an difference in power compared to the 83' I had.

Anyway, it's now time for Dad to get his new toy. The few questions I have all concern Mazda specific accessories or other after market upgrades.
For instance, on Mazda's homepage for the new MS6 they have a CAI - Part Number: GRMS-8M-H30 that lists for 305.00-325.00. Now the dealer was supposed to include this add-on at no cost to me but today I got a call from his parts manager saying they could do it but he did'nt recommend it because of the way it adversely affects the Turbocharger, too much airflow or some such non-sense, that it actually would decrease engine performance...(shocked)

I have been using K&N type air filters in all my vechicles for years and know that a car that breathes better, runs better and gets better mpg but who am I to question this parts manager...........................................well, I am the proud new owner of an MS6 who now does'nt trust the Parts/Service department at the dealer he just bought his new car from that's who!!(ughdance)

I am really only interested in upgrades that 1) do not void the warranty 2) increasing performance but not at the cost of MPG 3) a few cosmetic upgrades ie: wheels, exhaust, chrome engine parts etc. etc. Note: what are fuel line magnets and do they actually work?

Anyhow, thanks for taking the time (if you did) to read this long winded post and I look foward to reading/learning from all of you.

Pics to come, when She arrives......(peep)

Hmmmm guess my post was too long winded or complete noobs are'nt welcome here..................live an learn

I would suggest reading other threads in th MS6 threads first. Alot of your questions have been talked about at great legths. I had a MSProtege and I would recomend a CAI and exhaust. Their are some venders on this forum that sell aftermarket parts for your new ride. Their is also another vender that can't be mentioned for some reason but sell a good deal of parts for you MS6. As for the magnets... I have not a clue. Stay away from ebay adds 25+ hp gimicks.

Thanks for the reply Tviera..........I will read further into some of the other forums.

This is the right thing to do don't mind what other people post.

This forum is in it begining stages of supporting the Mazdaspeed 6. There are still a lot of members who dont understand the 6 is a larger more power full car then the Proteg. It also has all wheel drive and pushes 15 lbs of boost stock.

So post away in the speed 6 section and we will all try to answer your questions to the best of our ability.

ps your not a noob.

lol a CAI ADVERSLY affect a FI engine? wow.... thats new.

to give you an idea here... Imagine only being able to breathe through a straw and running a full speed, then doing the same thing but without anything blocking your airflow.. Which way will you run better?

do you have the # and name to the parts manager? I would love to hear his reasoning in person. Anyone else heard this?

BTW!!! welcome to the forums! dont get frustrated over the long response time, not too many people here have MS6s yet so its still in the beginning stages of this forum as another had mentioned.

Please read all you can, the guys here are great for information.

Sean

Klip,
I just picked up my MS6 a few days ago, and I also want a CAI. I would be interested to know what they actually sell that to you for and what the outcome is. Also do you have to have a mazdaspeed dealer install the stuff to keep warranty?

that's easy. he said that its supposed to be free. i.e. they're trying to weasel out of the deal by lying ;)

LOL tell him it's a P-E-R-F-O-R-M-A-N-C-E accessory.

IMO they just don't want to spend $300 on you.

On second thought, if he fed you a line like that. Tell him your friend got one and now he gets 1000 miles to a tank of gas. ;). Then tell him you're interested in a factory monkey wrench, and the blinker fluid looks low. But don't smile or anything......

By that time he'll probably admit his ignorance and order you one.

I wanna get one but I don't know about the snow and slush getting up in the air compartment via the wheel-well vent....

Yeah I guess I was a bit hasty, I know from previous experience using computer gaming forums that response time can vary...my bad.(peep)

Salth2o, not sure If I will be able to tell any difference in performance, as it should be installed before I take delivery on Wed/Thu but I will post if I have any problems. And I will check on the installation by a dealer warranty question.

I hardly ever work on my own vehicles. I never took 'Auto Shop' in High school some 25 years ago. I have changed most fluids, a time or two, swapped out batteries, installed new headlights/taillights, etc etc that kinda thing. But never have I dreamed of attempting the kind of projects I read on these types of forums. Anything dealing with engine or electrical just scares the BeJesus outta me for fear of breaking it or voiding any warranty.

But I can definitely see a wealth of information available here and again look foward to learning whatever I can.

Thanks for the replies....

Salth2o, according to my dealers part manager, any part sold by them (Mazda authorized accessory approved vender) does NOT affect the warranty, installed by the dealer or the owner. Warranty would not be affected. But read the fine print as it pertains to the warranties on the after market Mazda approved parts ie: this CAI is only warranted for 12 months/12,000 miles........ hope that helped...

If I were you, I'd tell them to not install the CAI, deliver the car with stock intake to you. Then ask them to give you the CAI in the box, install of the CAI is easy, anyone should be able to handle it. That way you still keep the stock intake.

The stock intake is what I paid for, so I assume they will let me have it but I understand and will ask them to box it up for me to keep. This site rocks.....thanks all

klip what was your cost to finance thru Mazda Financing? and what is your term?
the dealer won't give me some numbers unless i actually sit down with them to buy the car.

9% over 4 years from Mazda but that was only to get the extra $1000.00 off, within a month or two probably after Christmas, will be getting a new loan from our credit union or local bank where we've been quoted as low as 7%.

Salth2o, the CAI was 325.00 from my dealer and 115.00 installation. Again, they included this in my deal, so it was no cost to me, these are the numbers my saleman said they would have charged.

n, 9% on a new car...bad credit? my rate thru mazda credit on my new P5 was 6.8% and on my used msp was 7.1%

so 9% over 4 years, does that end up being more than $1000 in the long run?
Is there a way to get around getting the extra 1000 off but not having to cough it up thru interest?

btw it was nice that they threw in the CAI and installation cost for free! you must be a good negotiator.
