New owner climbing on board.

Mazda 5
Just bought a 2017 Cx-5 touring. So far so good and we're looking forward to good times ahead!

We previously owned a 2013 Mazda 5 Sport which was a love/hate relationship from the start (prior to that we drove an Accord). We had previously rented one and really liked which prompted us to buy one. We loved the design of a micro-van but came to realize just how cheaply made it was. The paltry mileage it got was downright criminal in my opinion. It served our little family well though and we became very comfortable with it.

We recently kept getting calls from the dealership to trade in for a new car so we decided to go with it. The 5 had 76k on it and I was looking at new tires anyway and with my son now 12 we didn't really need a mini van anymore. So we took the opportunity to upgrade and possibly move back to Honda. I did a lot of research, and I mean A LOT of research, comparing the Honda CRV and the CX-5 and decided that the Mazda was the better car for what we wanted and for us in general. So voila! We're new CX-5 owners. We're very happy with it and are quickly getting over the dysfunctional dealership experience and my disappointment at the lack of a CD player - such are modern times, heavy sigh....

Congrats. In most European / Australian / Canadian markets Mazda sales remain strong. Americans don't research much. Give them v6 and big cargo - they forget everything else.
Or give them 20% off msrp and then they buy Kia / Nissan crap.

Nice to see more people actually doing a research. CX5 for us has been stunning and for mixed driving beats the mpg on my 15 Camry SE - say what?

Ive had mine since mid October and I have been very pleased with it. It rides better and is more quiet than my 2012 Acura TSX that I traded in. When I was researching prior to purchase, I looked at a couple of CRV forums and they were having major issues...

American's go with the status quo....

Congrats OP on the new CX-5 :D

That explains why tropical fruit is absent from forums for long periods. Despite buying a loaded one with Honda first aid kit and Honda ashtray - he still has to wait in line to get it fixed. Lelolel.

I know you will enjoy your new CX-5. We've had ours for 6 months and really enjoy driving it. The A4 is my everyday car, but I'm happy to get into the CX-5 because it is quiet, well-finished and handles so well. Congrats!

Quietness and handling were high on the list when I did my research. The 5 had A LOT of road noise so we're glad to heve a quieter environment given how much running around we do. Since getting the CX-5 I've looked into how it stacks up against higher end vehicals - BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Audi, etc. - and I'm quite pleased to see that it seems to hold its own in quality of interior and ride. But while the honeymoon continues, I am coming to think that the audio system arrangement, with the nobs in the console between the seats, and the necessity to scroll through menus on a screen is not practical for a care and is kinda dumb. I'm just not used to it. I'm kinda old fashioned and don't take well or quickly to new things. Time will tell. But that ride...

Have you tried using the VOICE COMMAND to do the things you are trying to do on the screen? Such as "PLAY ARTIST NIRVANA" . There is also an in-car tutorial to help you learn. Hit the voice command button on the steering wheel, and say "TUTORIAL" I have not tried this on the 2017 and up models yet, but it should be the same.

You'll get used to it. It will become second nature

I've had my M6 for less than a month, and it does take a little time to get used to the tech.
The 6 interior is pretty much the same as the CX-5.
Every time I get behind the wheel, I play with the infotainment system, just to get comfortable with it.
I really like the commander knob, and I have zero complaints about how things work.
My suggestion is to just keep tinkering with it, and you will get comfortable in no time.
As for scrolling through menus to get to things, it is the way things are these days.
The interface may change from car to car, but menus and sub-menus are here to stay. It's not 1978 anymore....lol. Sorry.
