New Old 5

Hey everybody! My wife and I just bought an '07 for her daily driver so she could get around with our almost-3-year old daughter and 4 month old twin boys. They're such sporty looking cars (vans (huh)), and i look forward to doing some minor modding to it, if she'll let me or if i can be really discreet about it. I've done a little bit of google searching and haven't come up with much. The first thing i'd like to do is get rid of the tail lights. No offense to those that do, but i don't really like the OEM chrome units, especially on this grey mica color. I'd also like to lower it a little bit, but my wife is really gun-shy about dropping a car as my '06 eclipse is lowered with an eibach kit, and she's beat up my bumper and skirts pretty bad. Do you guys get much front bumper scrape? What type of part swapping can we do with these cars? Do other mazda model parts (headlights, grills, wheels, CAI, etc.) fit? What are the platform codes for NA models, and what foreign models coincide? Lot of questions, i'm sure i'll come up with more , and I'll put a couple of pics up as soon as i get 'em transferred to my computer, thanks!

Hey, thanks! Saw your post in members rides about visiting bald peak. I live on the other side of the hills, near McMinnville. Gonna try out that HD lip , and i really really like your rim choice. I was wondering about black rims on that grey color (i think ours is the mica grey, not the galaxy grey?), they look great!

EDIT: I know this isn't strictly the correct place for this, but if anyone reading this knows, could you point me in the right direction for tail light alternatives for my '07? I might just cherry 'em black if i can't find a nice alternative. 2007 seems kinda like an odd year for 5's.

EDIT 2: Did they really put a 6-disc changer that doesn't support MP3 playback in a car built in 2007? Wow!

Thanks, they do look good on the 5 but had to sell them looking for something new here soon. Also if you ever want to meet up sometime maybe we can work something out. Here sometime in February going to be lowering the 5 and putting a swaybar on. Also in-dash nav and some other stuff if I can afford it.

There really are no options for tail lights... other than different ones from 06-10 model years. There are the round ones (like you have), LED ones, and non led, not round ones. I think they are all huge with a lot of chrome though.

Also, my 08 has a 6 disc changer with no mp3 option. I know the mazda3 had mp3, but they just left it out of the 5 for some reason. I think the grand touring might have had mp3.

As far as easy mods... Mazdaspeed3 springs and rear sway bar. Pretty much any mazda wheel 16''+ will fit. Shorty antenna.

My '09 Grand Touring didn't have mp3 capability. I was a bit disappointed when I found that out. Swapping out the radio was the first "mod" I did.
