New MP3 owner... and I've already broken my new toy. :(

2001 Mazda Protege MP3
Hey guys! I bought my best friend's laser blue MP3 (with just under 44k miles) last month. I remember when she bought it new in '01, I told her, "I get right of first refusal when you sell it!" When she called me last month, I couldn't possibly refuse.

Her timing couldn't have been better, either. My '95 Miata is losing compression in the #4 cylinder, and is dire need of some TLC. I have a long list of upgrades for my Miata project; the look of the MP3 and the sweet sounds of the Racing Beat exhaust have pushed some RB exhaust and body components to the top of the Miata's list.

But, in the curse of me and "new" cars, I had the MP3 all of 3 weeks before scraping a concrete pillar turning right out of an underground parking lot.* (bang) I really would rather not live up to the woman driver image, but there you have it. The MP3 is just enough wider than the Miata that I totally misjudged my turn. My passenger rear door now sports 4 ripples and some deep gouges... I also got the skirt and the very edge of the rear quarter panel. $2300 worth of body work, only to find out that my insurance didn't include collision... I wondered why it was so cheap. (argh)

Ah, well, good reason to sign up for that body shop class I skipped in favor of a transmissions class earlier this year.

Make a girl feel better and tell me the terrible things you've done to your prized MP3s?

* I had the Miata for 2 weeks when I shattered the honeycomb in the cat going over a bump too fast, and had my '88 323 GTX for exactly one month before breaking the steering control arm. At least THIS is completely cosmetic, but !@#$ that it happened to the loveliest of the lot!!

can't say i've done anything bad to it myself... but i bought it with rust on the rear wheel wells, and its gonna cost 1500+ to fix

I don't have a MP3 but so far i smashed the front end once, ripped the rear bumper off once, got my windows broken once, and got my whole car scratched once.

Sorry to hear the bad news.
Female drivers now-a-days... JK :)

Well heres a story similar to yours. I was cleaning out my car in the driveway and I needed to pull in to the garage to vacuum and I was closing the doors but I missed the right rear and it nailed the brick on the edge of my garage door opening..... Some wonderful gouges in the door.
