Hello all,

First off, I'd like to say sweet site... can't believe it took me this long to find.

My question deals with rims, which I must say is a confusing issue.

I have read the majority of the posts on fitment etc., but I still am unsure whether my rims will fit, and unfortunately I found this site after I ordered them.

I am getting a set of ADR 7.5" wide, 18" rims with a 48+ offset. From what I've read the stocks are 17", 6.5" with 52.5 offset. Using the 1010 rim calculator it says I will have "9 mm less" and extend 17 mm. I ordered them with the 225/40/18 tires b/c they had the exact same radius and circum as stock 17's. I don't think the extension will be a problem as I have lots of room with the stock config, but will inner rubbing be a problem?? I'm just super pumped about these rims and don't want to be disappointed.

Thanks for any advice, insight... much appreciated.

Ryan

you should be ok from what I have seen others running, but don't quote me on that. Are you dropping the car?

thanks for reply...

Don't plan on dropping it...

Should I be more worried about it rubbing on the inside?? What can I do to rememdy this, i.e. shave plastic of the inner well where tire is rubbing?

I guess worst case scenario is I swap for narrower tire, trade the 225/40's in for some 215/45's. The place I got the rim/tire from didn't have the 215 size in a 45. But since the new speed 3's come with 215/45/18's on those would fit for sure.

Thanks for all replies.

the speed3 has a wider front fender than a regular 3, You may be cutting it close with 225, but you may be ok if you don't drop it. I know people are running 215's with a drop of 1.5". Your offset is high which is good, but you really never know until you try. I think what you want is a 215/40/18

Yeah I tried to get those, but they only had the two sizes.

I figure if the 225's don't fit that I'll just sell them locally and buy 4 new 215/40 or 215/45's.

Thanks again for the response.

Im running the same size and offset wheels you are looking at (17x7.5 45mm offset)

I got 225 45 17 tires, it looks that if I did an agressive drop that the front tires would be very close to rubbing rears have plenty of room.

Actually this may be good news... although you have 17's, I did the tire calculation with your tire dimensions compared to the 225/40's that i"m getting. Seems that the overall radius of the 225/40/18's will be less than 3mm difference. I'm not dropping my car, so if your combination doesn't rub, then I should be ok... It doesn't appear that you tires are sticking out of the wheel well that much either, even with 225's and the +48 offset. That's also good to hear.

Thanks for the pics too, can you post up one from the side as well??

Thats what I was thinking, that it would be a close size difference. actually my bad too, ive got a 45 offset...

im running 42 offset with that exact tire size and am lowered... no rubbing no issues... and it looks hawt cause its pushed so far out that its even with the fenders...

Sweet pics...

Yeah I was thinking the 225's would fill the wheel well out to the fender nice as well.

Unfortunately the only thing I have to wait for is the snow to melt (pissed)
Then it's a toss up b/w my M3 and my SV1000S.

Thanks for the feedback!

I will post pics etc. when I get the rims on...

Wetsuit - your car looks sex, esp with those rims. I'm gaining interest in RX-8 wheels for summer so this is all great info. Other than that, I think I might go with a black 5 spoke rim in a 17, remiscient of our stock rims.

That was my original plan, stick to a 5 spoke in gunmetal or rx-8s and have them powdercoated, found out how much powdercoating was, and changed my mind. Then I saw a members car with the work emotions, and was like shiiit I want those, saw the price, and couldnt bare to drop twice as much for the real ones vs getting wheels and tires for cheaper by going with knockoffs.

Good luck on your wheel hunt, dont settle til you find EXACTLY what you are looking for.

ps post pics when you do (first)
