2007 Mazda 5 Touring edition
Hey! My name is Ben and I just bought a yellow 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege turbo and I love the car. Best handling car ever. I bought the car for $10,000 used with 96,485 miles and looks brand new. Had only one other owner and he really took great care of the car. I have driven Hyundai since day one so this mazda is all new to me. I still own my other car, a 2002 Hyundai accent with a Tiburon motor swapped in and 5 psi of boost, but trying to sell her. I will post up some pics tonight of the new car. What can I do first to the mazda? BOV? Cant wait to meet all.
Thanks
Ben

nice msp! Looks super clean with almost 100,ooo miles

the hyundai is pretty cool too, did you ever dyno it?

Well what everyone so far failed to mention is that the rods in the car are as thin as a tooth picks. You will need to get some type of engine management to run the car safely. Good EMS are: AFC and UNICHIP for piggy back applications. Microtech and haltech are good stand-alone units.

Since you have the stock ECU and almost 100k I would go ahead and sea foam the engine, change the plugs, and get a new timing belt. Just some random things I would reccommend.

Some things that might want to watch out for is: LSD failure (welding does the trick nicely), the pencil thin rods (EMS and lower boost applications are great), and wastegate failure (atp makes a great replacement for only like 60 bucks).

Post up some pics of the engine bay so we can confirm if anything has been done.

I shall get some pics of the engine bay some time today and post them up tonight. I have got to sell my turbo hyundai soon so I can start working on the mazdaspeed. I am having that noise coming from the swaybar end links. Where can I find that bracket to fix that? I can't remember where I found that post. Thanks. Ben

Sure, no one mentioned that, but you don't need it if you are running basic bolt on mods. Intake and exhaust basically do whatever you like. Before you change out the intercooler, do a lot of research on the forum before deciding if you want to go with FMIC or SMIC upgrade. If you keep the boost below 10psi then you don't necessarily need fuel management, and even at that point the SplitSecond AFC is good enough. If you want to go all out with forged block and over 10psi then one of the other fuel management/standalones will be better.

^ yea, but my stock tune was so horrible that I probably would have blown up my car at stock boost levels before I got my AFC.

Funny thing is your Accent would probably be faster in a straight line because it's a lot lighter than the Protege. Did the Tibby engine drop right in, or was it a lot of work?
