New Member, Broken Rear Spring Question

Springs dont just break. That should really be replaced by the dealer or maybe you should tell us what you were jumping with your 5.... Where do you live? Was it rusty at all???

Before I read your comment the first thought in my head was the TSB where dealers ground off metal that stuck out on the springs the first couple of model years. They could have F'ed it up doing that.

OP - It takes only a tiny bit of missing metal in a spring to cause catastrophic failure from bending over and over. The spring gets its rigidity from the fact that the steel tube is putting equal force spread across the surface area. I highly recommend pulling the service history to see if the modification, per the TSB, was performed. If is was performed, then have a trusted mechanic inspect it and provide a written report. If it was not performed, then it could still be related to poor welds from the factory.

tru, or you could look on the forums to see if anyone is selling a set of stockers....pretty sure one of us has a set sitting around...oh look I got a set....pm me...wait...I'll email ya...hopefully you haven't spent 250 on one spring yet...it could probably save u some cash...
