New Mazda2 in the Family

Today my girlfriend and I signed on a Mazda2 Touring in zeal red.

We've been looking around for a new car for her to drive for a long time, so much so that I'd actually grown tired of test driving cars.

Finally, after looking at everything from GTIs to STs to Foresters to Mazda3s and plenty of other cars I can't even remember we (she) decided the Mazda2 was the way to go. A year ago she had driven a Mazda2 auto and thought it felt it was too slow and felt too cheap. We weren't really in the market at the time, but once we were she remembered her impression. First impressions are hard to break.

She's been semiseriously car shopping for about a month, but last week she sold her auto Civic for a ridiculously good price and things finally got serious. I've been a cheerleader for the cheapest Mazda the whole time, but she was between the Mazda3 (20k for the one we were going to buy) and the Forrester (24k). We both liked for Forester more than the 3. While both cars were great I was slightly worried about financing 10-14k when she's probably going to grad school in a few months.

Today was a soft deadline because I'm out of town for the next two weeks, while I don't mind her borrowing my cars she's super independent and wanted to have this whole car buying thing done today. I did too.

Though I've attempted to teach her manual for a while she finally had everything click last night. She's brilliant, but something wasn't working until today. Suddenly she just got it. Yesterday my Miata was shuttering and groaning when she drove. Today she drove it to work without an issue and was even able to drive my Jeep, probably one of the shittiest modern manuals, without an issue. It was primetime to give the Mazda2 another try. I drove at first and loved it, and she was actually confident enough to drive a stick on a test drive. She loved it for the price. While she didn't like it as much as the Forester she definitely didn't think the Forester was worth 10k more. I considered selling my Wrangler and pocketing the difference.

We almost bought a Sport for 13k, but right before we were ready to go the dealer told us they could find a Touring for us. Turns out there weren't any Tourings to be had by that dealer, which was sad because I really wanted to give them our money, so we decided to think on the Sport over dinner. I called another dealer and they found a Touring with a Manual in her second favorite color and we bought it for 14 and change. It should be in by Tuesday. They also offered us a Sport for 12k. I would have sold my Jeep and turned it into a Spec-b if I didn't have a chance of being sent overseas in December.

I've had 20+ cars in my decade and a half of driving and three of them have been Mazdas, all Miatas. I currently have a 1996 Miata and I've slowly been replacing parts after they break at track days. After my flyinmiata suspension arrives I'll be done for a bit. I've put four people into Mazda3s over the years, the first of which was my best friend (2007 GT 5 speed) and the last one was my Mom (Whatever the loaded 2.0 is with a 6 speed is). Three of the four have been manuals. I'm really excited to get the 2 in the driveway and if the break in is over I'll be paying for two spots at the next track day in October. I'll probably be switching the wheels with my Miata sets for s**** and giggles. Going to be fun.

TL:DR
Long time looking at cars, bought a Mazda2

Welcome! The 2 actually does very well on track. I was at a track day with another member here, and a guy in a ZL1 that was in his session (had a hard time keeping up with the 2) came over asking how big the turbo was! Photographer managed to get a shot of a point by from a cayman. Only mods to the 2 were re11a's on the stock wheels, and suspension.

Welcome! Glad to have another in our ranks. The 2 is indeed a really fun car. If you have sticky tires lying around for your Miata, throw them on the 2 and go autocrossing; you'll love it even more.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Took delivery last night. I'm still out of town, but the car is home.

OMG, I am so glad I found this forum. I was trying to find out about the integrated BT add on which I found a thread here. I loved hearing your story and Zeal Red is what I am getting. But here is my husbands and my story both I'm so excited. I am new here of course but my husband 2 weeks ago got a great deal on a Mazda 3 grand touring hatchback in white. Very Very nice. He started off wanting a Mazda 3 touring with technology package. He currently had a 2004 Ranger Truck and it ate up the gas drivng 30 minutes back and forth to work. I loved the red on the 3 and he really wanted a 6 but it was more money. He had been looking at Sedans and he liked white and silver he said those 2 colors wouldn't show dirt and dings as much but the red was so pretty.

Anyway we only have 2 Mazda dealerships where we are in Louisville Kentucky and I even called one in Lexington about an hour away trying to get the best price and I had been at true car also. One dealership gave us a quote on the back of a business card and they also were having a labor day special where we got an email coupon for 500 extra off from them only. Found out he could get a grand touring for just 1100 more and it was fully loaded. So off we go to the other dealership asking if they could match this price and they came back and literally sent us away and said if you can get it for that price go get it just make sure their not going to be any extra addons once you get there. We said ok but we may be right back to you if their is. We left called the other place they verified their price which was a 1000 less 500 less plus the extra 500 coupon. We got there and my husband liked this white hatchback better they said well it's usually 300 more but will sell it to you for the same price so we were sold. It's so nice! I can't afford what he got and am fine with the smaller 2 as long as I have the blue tooth add on which I am getting. But we walked inside my husband saw a silver 6 on display and said I think I'd rather have the 3 in silver he liked the way it matched the alloy wheels but their wasn't one to be found near by so he took white.

Now for me I have an old 2002 Escort ZX2 it's wrecked in the back it's silver has a moon roof and I added a Kenwood Sirius MP3 player that has 3 line colored text display which I am going to miss but that's the only thing I'll miss is the stereo. Oh and my car now has a remote start but I'm getting one put in the new car. My husband wants one too. Didn't use the moon roof that often and I have Sirius on my phone which I'll pay and keep cause I listen to it at work alot. But anyway I was going to save a few thousand and get a car next year. I like small cars and my Escort is a 2 door. I just had been looking online for when I was ready and was just thinking oh focus or even a fiesta something cheap. After seeing my husbands hatchback I really liked that style. I even looked at a Versa Note but it was big for me but loaded with features but more money than I wanted to spend.

So here I was gonna wait then a dealership told me that right now you can either get 0% or 2000 off with a little higher rate. I knew what I wanted my monthly payment to be and what I wanted my out the door price to be so I started calling around even calling Ohio. Found a guy 3 hours away in Dayton who gave me a great price but we weren't gonna drive 3 hours. Called my guy who my husband bought from all he had was a blue touring but could get me a red one if I wanted it oh and I am getting automatic. My guy hears this guys price and says I can' touch that price. Are you sure that is with the mazda factory blue tooth and installed and I said yes. He said I can get you an aftermarket blue tooth put in and the price would be this almost a 1000 more than what I am paying. I wanted the factory Mazda BT and then he said how about the sport with the Mazda BT I can do that for your price and I said no that's ok. So then I found another closer Ohio dealership that said they would match this other guys price in Dayton. So now I am at driving 2 hours instead of 3. So out the door with the factory Mazda BT installed it's coming to like 16 and some change. I took the Mazda special 2000 off and the dealership gave me extra off and I also get an extra 500 loyalty cause my husband just bought a Mazda. Am only getting 1200 for my car but I wanted to be out the door at like 15 so I think I did really good. I am happy and my payment is what I wanted.

So on my way to work the other day I hear a commercial on the radio that said Jeff Wyler Chevy in Shelbyville Ky where my husband works 30 minutes from our house. I called Jeff Wyler Mazda in Cincy which is who I was dealing with in and asked if they could bring the car to me and I pick it up at this other dealership and they said sure. I was so excited. They have to order the BT kit and it should be in and installed on Thursday and I will pick up my car Friday before I go to work. Zeal Red was my 1st color of choice and I love the interior with the red trim and the leather steering wheel with the trim also. I am from Louisville Kentucky so this is Louisville Cardinal colors and I love this color and can't wait to get the car.
Ok sorry I wrote a book I am too excited this will be my 2nd Brand New car I've ever owned. Always had used cars growing up.

Please let me know how your wife likes her car! What was her 1st color of choice just curious? The silver is pretty but my escort now is silver and I wanted a color Ive never had before and I liked the Zeal Red over the True Red. A few places in Ohio had it one was Dayton who gave me the best price and my store here said no way but it's all worked out and this other Ohio Jeff Wyler is matching his price. And I love all the extra features of the touring over the sport too. Glad I found this forum cause I got to go to the BT thread and everyone said it works well for phone and ok for streaming. But I love the picture you posted it's gorgeous and I am so glad I am getting that color too! :-) The price was too good to pass up and I decided not to wait.

Oh and my husbands has the shark fin looking antenna he's worried about this antenna on the 2. Like when I go through a car wash. I like his it's sporty but I love everything else about the exterior of the Mazda 2. His doesn't have the fog lights which he would like to add.
