Mazda has recently been granted a trademark in Japan for a new corporate logo.The updated design remains closely linked to Mazda's current winged M logo, which has been in use since 1997.The new trademarked logo features a shift from the previous oval shape to a more rounded, circular form.

I was thinking it was time…Time to move on from the raised shiny chrome look that a lot of Brands have been using…Big fan of what Nissan did with their logo in recent years.

Looks good. Not too drastic of a change like Kia. I think Hyundai needs to update theirs. I know there’s not much you can do with an “H” but I always thought it’s too close to the Honda logo - which was probably the intent.

Doesn't look like a drastic change really, just more the stylization of their current logo (minorly different shape). But agreed with @7eregrine - will wait to pass judgement till I see it on an actual car.

This new design looks like a cheap two-dimensional sticker. If they feel the need for a change, fine, but hire someone other than a kindergartner to come up a with a design more fitting for Mazda's new upmarket aspirations.

There are many different uses for logos. This could simply be for print on letterhead, or something else.

That appears to be a bare bones version for the trademark application...I think Mazda has a very sophisticated design sense (especially compared to the other Japanese auto manufacturers) and so there is a good chance that it will not appear "cheap".

Also, as others have stated...We won't know for sure until we see it in the wild on Mazdas. It does seem the industry is moving away from these shiny 3D style badges that have been in use for decades and I welcome the change...

Mazda officially updates logo after 28 years...Word has been out about this since the summer but it appears to be official now…It was about time, I dig it…What does everyone think?

* Reminder…This simplified version in black may be just the trademark application version and not the actual finished logo. Still we can see the main differences.

Waiting to reserve judgement until I see it on the back of a car. Surely it won't look like a die-cut decal when it's applied to mass produced cars at their factories.

It appears that’s from the trademark application and we don’t yet have a pic of the physical badge yet so good call to wait and see…I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be versions that light up!

Good point...Note also the EZ-6/6e has Mazda spelled out on the rear instead of a logo badge.
