i went to emissions FAILED so it shot 2 codes and turns out needed a new maf! ordered and installed...now my car is bogging down and sometimes dies! The other code had to due with the piston sensor....any ideas what it could be..i have an 03 protege 5 HB

Did you put the new one on the right way? Also, did you reset the ecu after installing it?

What codes did it show? Are you sure the MAF was the problem? Check the air intake for any rips.

piston sensor... wtf is that? Please give us the codes, and yes did you disconnect the battery when installign the new MAF?
Does it idle funny after the new MAF?
Are you sure you have all the clamps on tight as to no leaks?
Do you have the stock intake?
Do you have a picture of your currently engine bay setup?

Odd that problems arose AFTER the new maf was put on. Do you still have the old one that you could throw back on for shiggles? I would try that after you reset the ecu and drive (if possible) for at least 30 miles.

here are the codes it shot
p0102 Mass or volume air flow circuit low input
P0101 Mass or volume air flow range/perfomance problem
P0121 throttle/petal piston sensor/switch A curcuit

The guy at auto zone said the MAF usually triggers the throttle/petal piston so i went ahead and started there

yea it idles funny...it will bogg down then rpms will shoot back up to about 1k and then shoot down to about 300-500 rpms....sometimes will shut the engine down.
all clamps are snugg....
and i have an after market intake. i did nothing more than take the old maf off and replace it. i do hear a slight hissing coming from the filter though,,dont know if that indicates a leak somewhere or not

sounds like you have a leak between the MAF and the throttle body somewhere

Im having the same problem on my p5... If the ac is on the rpm goes down to where it turns off at times and when i go from 2k to 2.5k rpm it has a misfire and it does it everytime around that rpm spark plugs and spark plug wires re brand new with a new oil change and a new maf sensor

The last one, P0121 Throttle/Pedal Postion Sensor. It's the sensor on the side of the throttle body, nothing related to pistons.

Did you ever get this fixed? Any updates?

I'm running into a similar issue. I'm getting P0102, had P0121 but that didn't reappear after clearing. My MAF looks bad, like one of the blades got fired. I just want to make sure I don't pick up a substandard MAF and what else I should look into.

Thanks!
