New Info on next MP3

Variable Valve Timing(VVT) works like this on a DOHC engine: for each Cylinder there are 2 valves on each side of the head. but each came has 3 lobes for each cylinder and 3 risers. A VVT cam has 2 smaller lobes on the outside and a larger lobe in between the 2 smaller lobes. the risers ride on the corresponding cam lobe. at a specified rpm a rod is pushed thru a set of holes in each riser. once this rod is pushed in the middle riser takes over using the larger cam lobe. this allows for more fuel to be sucked into the cylinder b/c the valves stay open for a longer period of time. more fuel and air = more hp. that is how Honda's VTEC, Toyota's VVT-i, and Mazda's VVT system all work.
 
If the new motor is gonna have variable valve timing. It will in now way, shape, or form be compatible with the current FS motor in our MP3's. To incorporate variable valve timing into a car that doesn't have it, would involve reworking the entire valve train. Much like the way they do LS-VTEC swaps on hondas.

It is possible to get 180-190 on the FS-ZE platform, but not the FS motor we have. Just like NYCZMP3 said, anything shy of a turbo will not get you there.

Unless you have the dough to install the pistons, shot-peen the conrods, knife-edge the crank, port & polish the head, extrude hone the intake manifold, have some custom cams made, lighten the vavle train, have someone make a one-of thin head gasket to raise the compression even higher, dive into the drivetrain so you can get the power to the wheels, then have enough money to run MOTEC, Haltech, Tech II, Link, Speed Pro or some kind of stand alone engine management...... :D I wouldn't suggest aiming to get 180whp.

To make a long story short, "It won't be economical to try to build a monster NA MP3" Even if you do have fast NA MP3, someone with a RSX, WRX, Sentra Spec V, will pass you after they only spend a 1/4 to half of what you spent.
 
NYCZMP3: I mean if the engine displacement remain the same, we are more likely to get the MPS Miata 2.0L motor, than FS-ZE or others.
