03 MSP.
Well i put my boost controller on earlier this week, and turned it up to 10psi, and i must say, i was impressed, as were several friends. The car feels MUCH stronger... so i went back to the track to improve on my previous times.
Stock form i ran 10.3@69. Not too bad.

Track conditions were about 85 and HUMID, stupid Ky weather. But i brought my water bottle and sprayed the pipes after each run, which were back to back if i wanted them... there just werent many people running.

To the numbers:

Best Run 9.683@74.62 2.35 60ft. .132 R/t
others:9.846@74.25 2.425 60ft
9.996@73.52 2.489 60ft .196 r/t
9.859@74.53 2.463 60ft .358 r/t

i had about 5 other runs, usually about 10.0-10.1 Trapping 74.xx mph as well. Launching is my most inconsistent point, and since i lag alot off the line, once i hit full boost i break traction in 1st, so that hurts a little.
In about 2-3 weeks, my cars gonna get some cool stuff done, like exhaust, i/c pipes, and intake. Guy here does alot of work, and is gonna use my car as a design car for some stuff. Not really sure what all is going to be done, but after this, i should run low 9's, and if i go catless, and can run race gas, i may run turbo blue, or utica gas(110), and up the boost a little more, and try for a high 8.

More to come as i get it!
Enjoy :D

GOOD job dude i run quite abit too i run consistant 9.60 9.61 9.63 all day at 10 psi with spikes at 12 psi. at 8 psi spikes to 10 i run 9.80s. again nice runs also its very hot outside too keep in mind turbos like cool weather so wait until it gets about 70 mine should run 9.40

good job man!

but this belongs in the racing/motorsports section NOT the msp section.

Lets see do you even own a mazdaspeed? why must you dog others posting here every post i go to there you are saying some negative comment about posting a racing post. Just give it a rest and let people post what they want to. if you dont like the post here THEN DONT CLICK ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont go into the msp section intenionally...i click on the new posts on the right hand side of the screen which doesnt even tell you the section theyre in...i didnt say anything negative, all i said is you posted in the wrong section. instead of being a total moron dickhead, why dont you just post in the right section next time...and msp owners wonder why we p5 owners think you are all assholes...because you b**** because we dont own msp but yet we still compliment your cars

NO doubt about it you are a ARMY GUY with language like that. not all of us MSP owners are assholes sorry buddy. im just saying let people post where they want to thats all. and dont read it if ytou have something negative to say or for the most part dont post about it if it doesnt pertain to you. see ya MSP owner

first, i complimented him on his run, i wasnt being negative.

two, i worded for him to post correctly politely as a second point.

third, ill post wherever, and whatever, and about what the hell ever - i want to...

OK BOSS SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!! please dont kick me out of the mazda forums sir.......................

i will if you guys start posting in the right areas, deal? :)

AH sweet sweet Gazor. Anal retentive to the end.
All hail Gazor "Thread b****" extraordinaire.
Give it a rest you whining ho.

Razor, just curious, how would it benifit you if this topic was posted in another section? You said you clicked on it from the sidebar that does not display the section title. I could see if maybe this was in the audio section or something, but he posted about his Mazdaspeed in the Mazdaspeed forum.

I seriously think we need a seperate forum of our own. This is getting ridiculous. Every post I read here has either a lame reason or sarcastic remark about it being in the wrong section. Makes this place look like a convention of pedantic kids.

9.6@ almost 75mph is good for about a 14.9@93-94mph. That's not bad for those conditions. Expect some 9.4@76mph (14.6s) when things cool off. One thing though, you guys really need to learn how to launch these cars. 2.4+ 60 foots are pretty bad. Honestly, I think you guys are launching WAY too low because I constantly read about you guys bogging in 1st and then boost hits which causes major wheel spin. You guys should be launching at 4000-4500rpms and slipping the clutch a bit and feathering the gas. The high rpm launch takes practice, but you guys will some see some major drops in ET if you keep the car from bogging. If I can launch my Maxipad at 4000rpms (~195fwtq) on all-season 215/60R15s, grab low to mid 2.2 60 foots with an open differential, and on a poor track, you guys can too.

I see more and more mid to low 14 second runs with 2.4 60 foots with MSPs. Once you guys learn to launch these things, you'll be in the 13s easily. Launch higher, not lower. Believe me on this one.

BTW, I'm really digging the MSP and I'm keeping a close eye on the gains these cars are making. I just wish it had cruise control and a didn't have the silver steering wheel/seats.

hELLO MADDMAX IVE TRIED ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF LAUNCHES IN THIS CAR. 3000RPM- 5000RPMS. NEITHER WORK ON THIS CAR. LET ME GIVE YOU A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON ME.
IM 28 IVE BEEN RACING FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS ON THE NHRA IHRA TRACKS SINCE I WAS 17. IVE RACES CARS LIKE VWS, CAMAROS, MUSTANGS ALL WICH WERE VERY FAST LOW 6s in the 8th mile and low 9s to high 8s in 1/4. ive never driven a fwd car before this one with this much power im just getting into the import scene. ive learned quite abit about this car in 6 months of racing it. This car has alot of tourqe mines putting about 180 lbs of tourqe to the wheel and im guessing about 200hp to the wheel at 11psi of boost. the problem is this....... it spins very hard on launch with these tires (17s) is whats on it. Im thinking if i had some slicks or drag radials it will hook up but they gotta be 15s.
also the mazdaspeed has short gears low redline and spools really fast so you have to be a good driver to drive this car. shifting this ar is tough its very quick. easy to miss shift. also this car pulls very hard in 3rd gear. i went to the track last week ran a 9.58 on a 95 degree day. 60" time was around 2.29-2.32 this is because of tire spin my 330" times are good 6.29-6.32. tell me what you think? my buddy has a type-r fully built motor (pistons fuel pressure reg. i/h/e also ported polished head too. he beat me by a fender because he got me out of the hole but i ran him down at the end beat me by a fender then we ran again and i killed him i went a 9.58 he went a 9.60. Give me some feedback please..............(msporange

ZMN BY U-

You sound EXACTLY like myself. I'm 29 and my prior experience is with RWD musclecars. My prior car (5 years ago) was a lower 13-second 94 Z28 automatic and I've also had lots of track time in my friends manual 5.0 and 4.6 Stangs. Let's just say launching a RWD car with lots of torque is far easier than launching a higher revving FWD car with decent torque. My Maxima makes ~195fwtq and ~200fwhp, weighs ~3150lbs with me in it (these are VERY light midsize sedans), and has a 3.90 gear. The MSP with increased boost to 10-11psi and the other typical tweaks is putting down roughly the same power and actually comes in close in terms of weight.

When I first took my Maxima to the strip, I was running horrible times. I was getting 15.3s@91mph with 2.4 60 foots. No matter where I launched (1500-3000rpms), I got a bog and then tons of wheelspin thru 1st and some of 2nd. I asked around and people kept telling me to launch higher, slip the clutch initially, then release it quickly while feeding the car gas trying to ride the fine line between adhesion and dramatic wheelspin. After experimenting, I found out launching at 4000-4500rpms results in far better times. With a little practice and improved shifting and shift points, I went from 15.3s@91mph with 2.4 60 foots down to 14.8s@93mph with mid 2.2 60 foots with no other mods. Fast forward 2 years later and I'm launching the same way, I've got more mods, substainally more power, and I'm still getting mid 2.2 60 foots on average with a few low 2.2s thrown in. This is on 215/60R15 bald 7-year old OEM Goodyear RSAs and a pretty poor track (Kansas City International Raceway, 1100' above sea level).

Here's my technique:

1) Set the prestage light
2) Creep up ever so slowly and set the stage light. I creep as slow as possible and stop the exact moment I set the stage light, this is called "shallow staging" for those that don't know. A shallow stage gives you ~7" of roll out before the timers actually start. It might not sound like much, but it call drop your ET by .05 and gain you ~.7mph.
3) Once staged, I rev up 4000rpms and release the clutch just before it starts to engage.
4) Once I see the last amber come on, I release the clutch a little and the feel for the car to start moving. The reason I want to get a little roll, is so that the driveline isn't shocked by a huge load which typically creates lots of wheelspin. Once moving (I'm talking 1mph), I release the clutch fairly quickly (never dumping) and feed the car gas. My goal is it keep the revs above 3500rpms the whole time without getting major spin. I rarely go full throttle until around 5000-5500rpms. I don't do a lot of clutch slip, but there is some there. 99K miles on the stock clutch and 140 1/4 mile passes and it's never given me a single problem.

I'm sure the MSP is going to be a bit different, but I'd think the goal is to come off the line with boost (~4K rpms?) so that you don't get a bog and then have the boost come on line and cause lots of wheelspin.

Launch high and release soft. That's all I can say.

If you get drag radials, I'd think you could easily land 13s. As you probably know, every .1 you shed in 60' will drop around .2-.25 at the end of the 1/4. With drag radials and the high torque under boost, I'd think 1.9-2.0 60 foots are entirely possible assuming the drivetrain can handle the torque. For comparison, another Maxima owner has the same exact mods as myself and gets the same kind of ET/MPH on street tires however when he runs full blown slicks, he runs 13.6-13.7@100-101 with 1.8 60 foots. He goes from 14.3s to 13.6s just using slicks and a 5500rpm launch. Initial acceleration means EVERYTHING.
