i just got a mazda speed and i was wondering if there is anyway to get rid of the 5500rpm turbo limit? or change the limit and make it higher to like 6500 or 7k?

uh no youre dumb. you can if you want to change out the turbo, cams and probably have some headwork done.

There is no such thing as a dumb question. That being said, you could use some help in the knowledge department :)

The turbo conkin out @ 6000 rpm has a lot to do with the factory tune of the PCM module. If you dig around and observe whats going on with other's builds on here, you will find several folks have improved the performance up higher in the rpm between 6k and redline.

In reguards to the access port, I found this from the mouth of one of the beta testers, sounds promising.

I was contacted by Cobb to do some beta testing for the Accesport on my semi-stock Mazdaspeed3. My car has Cobb’s SRI and stage 2 suspension. The car was pretty solid with the basic mods; then, we did the Accesport and the car is a whole new monster. First through third gear produces a strong and smooth power curve all the way to redline. Fourth gear is tricky to see how hard it will pull to redline; because; you are doing over 85mph at the end of third gear

. Fifth and sixth gear cruising down the freeway you can feel a better response when accelerating to change lanes. Driving the car around town has not suffered at all. The new power band is even easier to manage in stop and go traffic than stock. I haven’t been able to check if fuel mileage has changed in anyway; but, as soon as I have the numbers I will post them.

EDIT: This should have been post #14 posted at 4-29-08 3:00pm EST. The forum put it down here for some reason. ???

Back on topic... I can't wait to see what kind of improvement the Cobb AP might make in this area.

If Cobb AP does what its advertised to do, it will reprogram/reflash the ECU with a new tune and will adjust the fuel trims to provide more fuel pressure on the upper RPM range, thus creating more power/boost up top.

You can also do this with an upgraded CDFP...

Can the Cobb AP p&p also modify or eliminate boost limiter by the ECU.

With the Cobb AP you are limited to however Cobb decides to offer tunes. Cobb can tune out the boost limiters if they want, but I doubt they will.

Why do you want to eliminate the boost limiter...? I assume you're talking about the 1st and 2nd gear limiter? There is no need for more boost in those gears since its all wheel spin anyway...
(huh)

You know personally I wouldn't care about 1st gear, but I would love to be able to get full boost in 2nd gear for autocross. I just feel like I would be able to get alot more out of it with more boost with some stickier tires.

Actually, I would like to tone down the boost on 2nd gear for autocross... (lol2)
I spin rubber from one corner of the course straight through the other... I have no traction what so ever... I tried throttle modulation, nothing!!! Just look at the accelerator and the tires just spin. (lol2) (bang)

And I don't want to start buying r-comps either...

Wow, I haven't had that problem at all. What kind of surface does your region run on? We run on a highschool parking lot with regular pavement. The last session everything was damp from rain in the morning and I really didnt have much problem keeping wheelspin in check. TC off of course. (I forgot to turn it off on 2 runs and the car just fell on its face when I tried to launch, lol)

I think we run on concrete...I don't know...the gray stuff... (lol2)
Its actually a law enforcement train facility/pad with a skid pad area.

I have traction issues on the drag strip with the sticky surface, the difference is that I get wheel hop there. On the street or autocross, its smooth wheel spin. I've even tracked the car on the Gainesville road course and I did not have any traction on 2nd and part of 3rd...
I've even tried to leave the TC on, but its too harsh.

The stock MS3s get better times than me... I'm always behind them no matter what I try. I'll get close, but not close enough. Kind of embarrassing actually.
Just picture a fully modded MS3 making all sorts of cool noises and exhaust rumblings and pops just to come in behind the stockers... (lol2)

Torque

thanks for the info. i will take a look into it

This car seems to like to be shifted a bit earlier than I was used to. i am more comfortable with the low end grunt now. Some of my v8 buddies have said wow or something similar!

well i was just kidding about the rudeness super unique and mordant80. he was talking about increasing the redline. he wasnt asking to shift the power curve towards the upper rpms. I dont know what im missing. Fill me in super unique.

i wasnt talkin about the redline..i was talking about the turbo shutting off at 5500rpm.

the other guys answered my question

hahaha i could imagine how that would feel, i was at the drag strip with two other ms3...they said they're from the other forum...kinda shady, but they said they are stock which I believe cause they're not rumbling like me, I was so afraid to get embarrassed if i get higher times than them, but i guess it's different on the drag. ... . the sheer power from my tbe, and cai beat them by a very high margin, and i guess skills too..they look like kids...probably didnt know how to launch yet.

MSleeper, welcome to the forum... putting bolt ons...would increase your power past the 5500rpm...i'm able to shift at 6000k now without feeling a drop in power with my bolt ons.

I suppose so you`re right but a tad more maybe 1-2psi won`t hurt in my scond gear:-)
Can the Cobb increase the fuel delivery without fuel pump upgrade do you think and without loss of pressure.
