New Headlights

After trying several different brands of headlights, sylvania, streetglow, apc, etc...I finally got fed up w/ crappy lights that burn out too fast. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to get HID's at this point. My friend reccomended Luminics (www.luminics.net) and they are guaranteed for one year against burn outs. I ordered the 55/60w Super White H7 for the lows, the 55/60w Super White 9005 for the highs, and the 55w JDM yellow for the fogs. They look great on my buddy's car and I'll post pics as soon as I get them in and installed on my car. I'm looking forward to a light bulb that lasts longer than 2 months.

I'm not sure if the yellows are better or not for fogs. My reason for ordering them is that they MIGHT be better and I think it would look cooler. The reason that I think yellow may be better for fogs is because the bluish/white light from HID's and lookalike bulbs gives a very clear, sharp light on the road, but doesn't provide contrast and shadowing very well. My experience with this comes from mountain biking at night, where using an HID helmet lamp lights up the trail very well, but makes it difficult to distinguish between the type of dirt you are riding on (sand, hardpack, etc...). Using a standard halogen lamp, however, provides a less intense yellowish/white light that provides better contrast on the trails. The same seems to be true with snowboard goggle lenses at night. A yellow lens provides optimal contrast. So, based on these two things and the fact that the IS300 has yellow fogs, I decided to go w/ them. The bulbs I ordered are only rated at 55W, w/ a 130W equivalent output, but you can get the superwhite bulbs in an H3 for the fogs rated at 100W actual, and like 160W equivalent output. If I recall correctly, the fogs on the P5 are rated up to 100W actual, so the 100W superwhite H3's would be brighter, but I'd rather have the yellows, since I don't use them to project, but just light up the area in front and to the sides of my car very well.

I was just informed that the yellow H3's are out of stock till the end of the month. The other bulbs will ship immediately, though. The people at the company seem very friendly, helpful, and concerned.

Pics do not justify the product. They are not turning out(pictures at night). These bulbs are really nice.

Street Unit, what do you mean by "they are not turning out"?

I will post pics very soon. I have the low beams and high beams installed and should have the fogs very soon. The only problem is that it has been so wet here lately that I haven't been able to see how well the lights work since it all reflects off the road. As soon as the fogs arrive, I will get them installed and take some pics in a parking structure where the pavement is dry. So far the low beams seem really nice. They are a clean white light with just a hint of blue depending on the angle, which makes them look a lot nicer.

Did anyone out there purchase these bulbs!?? Do they actually last?? I am also fed up with bulbs that last 1 month! Even if they have a replacement warranty! It's just the inconvenience of it all!

(Aftermarket coloured bulbs)(gun)

Pics at night are not turning out... any suggestions?

If you have a digital camera that has some sort of autoexposure settings, you can put the camera on a tripod or steady it on a surface and turn off the flash. What options you have really depends on your camera.

I'll be able to get good pics of the bulbs (I've done it before) and will post them as soon as I can. I guess I'll do pics of the lows and highs soon, and then take pics of the fogs whenever they come in.

I'm with creednet69. The gaurantee doesn't mean much if you have to go through the inconvenience of swapping bulbs still.

Is it that the bulbs are cheap or that the mounting causes so much vibration that the bulbs go out prematurely? Perhaps wiring or heat issues?

I too have gone through more bulbs than I'd like. Not just Sylvania Silverstars, but the stock bulbs and OEM style replacements like Philips and Wagner.

I haven't had them long enough to speak on their longevity. But a 2 year warranty says the manufacturer is confident with their lifespan.

Subscribing for updates. This has been an ongoing problem w/my P5 ever since switching out the OEMs. Can't leave well enough alone I guess. (shrug)

But most people just give up on replacing them after 2 times. I bought some on ebay that had a lifetime warranty and I gave up... It's just a pain in the ass. But hey! If you have them for 2 years and they didn't burn out once, I'll probably concider buying them.
