new head unit question...

my kenwood head unit was stolen outta my 03.5 mazdaspeed while it was at the shop. the shop is gonna cover the cost of everything and im not worried about that. when they called mazda to order a new head unit, they could no longer find the kenwood unit that goes into our cars. now, mazda is telling the shop that they were going to stop using the kenwoods and they are putting in a new head unit for new cars (maybe for the mazda 3? not sure but w/e). any idea what stereo it might be?

it's not a kenwood, thats for sure. have you seen the dash for the 3? itll take major customization to change to an aftermarket head unit. they dont have it designed in the usual DIN configuration.

oh where do I start...

I was under the impression that kenwood does not produce the model that is in our cars anymore, and your dealer for one prolly has no idea what you meant when you said kenwood or mazdaspeed, as I have learned from experience. If you talk to someone who knows they will tell you that you will get/should get the model comparable to the one we have. I don't know the model number off hand, but that is what should happen.

Tell the shop to give you the money for the replacement and just go buy whatever one you want. Doesn't have to be kenwood if they are willing to pay for it anyway.

I got my deck stolen as well... unfortunately, I didn't have someone who'd pay for a replacement for me.

Anyway, I went to the dealer and they said that it would cost $600 to replace that stock Kenwood KDC-MP919... which I thought was total BS. I just ended up getting a Panasonic deck to replace it (which I like WAY better than our stock Kenwood).

But yeah, you should tell the guy that it's a $600 deck since that's what the dealer says... Get the money for it... and install a DVD player!

forget the stock deck man... it sux in my opinion... go for a Alpine, or Pioneer... they're great, panasonics aren't bad either... dont get a sony... they suck balls.
