New Hampshire Just passed a law about Loud Exhaust

NH just passed a law (HB243) that requires testing of the exhaust to receive a ticket. Basically, it must be louder than 95 db, using an SAE-defined test (something like 20" away, 45 degrees down, at 75% rpm of full power).

I thought I would let you all New Hampshire members know.

How about this? HB243 ==>> RSA 266:59, III, relative to modification of motor vehicle
exhaust system, is repealed.

That section has to do with modifying the exhaust to be louder than
stock.

This has been passed by the House, and is being reviewed by the
Transportation committee (Senate), and it is expected to pass OK. When it
does pass, it will be retroactive to Jan 1, 2004, so anyone who has
received a ticket since then will be able to go back and fight it.

Ahh, good, now there are some clear definitions! Before, they would just pull you over and tell you your exhaust was too loud, according to one of my friends. I don't have an issue with it, as I like a quiet exhaust, but some people did, I know.

I thought they had to use a DB meter before aswell?

I beleive it was stated that 'unreasonable' exhaust note is illegal, or somesuch... I might be wrong, though. Hey, are you going to be around anywhere today? I was visiting my parents on Saturday, but the camera's still here, waiting to be dropped off.

So does anybody know if section 266.59 has been repealed or not? That would be great Because I have an 01 eclipse spyder with a magnaflow catback and was fortunate enough to find a lick and stick, but those guys have since lets say been let go. Damn

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Four

AN ACT relative to motor vehicle exhaust noise standards.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

259:1 Repeal. RSA 266:59, III, relative to modification of motor vehicle exhaust system, is repealed.

259:2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect upon its passage.

(Approved: Enacted in accordance with Article 44, Part II, of N.H. Constitution, without Signature of Governor, June 16, 2004)

ok... i was just pulled over in merrimack tuesday night. my car isnt too loud (91 protege w/ crappy pacesetter exhaust) and the cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket i didnt sign that says i have to get my car fixed within 5 days and prove inspection or else i cant drive my car. the cop didnt make me sign it and said get it fixed asap. this is wrong isnt it?

I am a police offier in NH in a town to remain unamed. The officer has to prove that the exhaust is to loud to give you a ticket. i.e. he has to have a decimel reader with him. I wouldnt worry about that law being enforced unless you have a jet engine under your hood, and we all know the 2.0 is as far from a jet engine as you can get.
