Hi everyone, I have a 2007 speed 3. I work with a bunch of s*** talkers that claim I need to trade up to a v-8 muscle car. I would love to build my speed 3 up to 420 hp to the ground, shut some people up. Just looking for advice on where i need to start and what parts i need to look for first. All i have is a cobb sri, and a forge bov. Thanks for your time.

If you want 420 whp to the wheels, plan on a steep learning curve and a LOT of expensive mods.

Cheapest safe way to that route would be custom tuning for E85 fuel, forged internals, much larger MAF housing, intake, recalibrated MAF sensor, big downpipe, etc.

Also remember that this is a FWD platform and will always get ***** from a dig by even stock muscle cars.

Having said that, we have a huge weight advantage and power to weight ratio pretty much controls race outcome once you hook up and have comparable gearing.

I can pull on stock current stock Camaro SS and 5.0 Mustangs from a 40 roll, with my mods listed below. But that is "only" about 300 whp. That is about the limit, even fully bolted, on the stock turbo and 93 octane pump gas, maybe 320 on a custom tune from a very talented AP tuner.

If you are planning to race modified muscle cars, either get a very fat wallet or get a 5.0 'Stang, spend only a couple grand and get down into the high 11's or low 12's.

You are driving a high 13 second car. I can run 13.4 at 106-107. But from 60 mph up I can run with the 12 second crowd.

Maybe set your sights a little more realistically? These are fantastic cars, but drag racing is not their forte.

If you want to spend the big bucks to get really quick it can be done. Go over to mazdaspeed forums board and read the big turbo build threads. Also take note of the number of blown engines on those low 12 second time bomb engines.

got a speed protege many mods dude i got it from said he has about 250hp running it 7psi boost tuned for autocross and time attack these arent the best drags. keep in mine we have fwd cars and there only 4cy or 6cy. to much wheel power = lots of traction loss less u tune it right and get a limited slip differential with the right gear ratio set up. i raced a 5.0 stang other night got my ass handed but i did keep up atleast a 3 car length yea it was bad.

v8 guys will always talk crap on 4 cylinders, it's a given. I don't have a MS3, I have a MSP and will be building mine pretty soon to walk on a few v8s in my area. Good luck on your quest. Go on youtube, there is a video of a 3 at around 4-500hp I believe.

there is no way possible to hit 250hp on 7 pounds of boost with the stock t25. It is just impossible. Maybe with around 12-14, but 7....no. So, looks like the previous owner lied to you. 7 pounds on the t25 is pretty much stock boost. You are anywhere around 140-160...and the 160 is me being generous. Also, if I remember correctly, the MS3's already have a LSD just like we do. Limited Slip Diff's pretty much come standard now on most if not all modern performance cars.

He put a bigger turbo not to big goes up 2 9psi steedspeed manifold familas camshaft slip diff full exhust viberent think thats it far as power goes

Prepare to pay a pretty penny to make power with this platform. Do tons of research first and ask lots of questions before you start tearing up the car

Thanks everyone for the advice. Glad you guys are giving me the truth, and not just hopes and dreams. Love my speed 3, guess I just have to deal with the s*** talk until the wallet gets fatter! Lol. Again, thanks everyone. Might be better off making a track beast instead.

Introduce them to autocross or road racing and they won't be talking s*** anymore. :D

i would talk to Eric at Edge Auto Sports, hes got his built to over 400 at this point but even when he was built under 400 hp his car still took down some big boys. but plan on upgrading almost everything to get to 400 at the wheels. but the other question is what are your friends v8 cars, going against a v8 doesnt mean you need 400hp to get some respect, im running a nicely modded/tuned MS3 and i hold my own, this car is surprisingly fast even around 300HP. weight is a big factor.
