new and lookin for the next best motor

Ok I have owned My mazda for a year and a half now but I have done absolutley no research on it till tonight. I am an ex honda owner and one thing I have noticed is Mazdas dont seem to be as interchangeable as far as parts go from model to model.
I am just wondering what motor I should go with in my 3rd gen protege since I have spun a rod bearing. I have heard from a few friends to look into the BPT but I dont think Mazda is as universal as honda in their trannies. from the looks of it i should be able to use the f25m-r tranny with the bpt but it also looks like i could have some problems in other areas. So if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I agree, just get the best built motor. Any "interchangeable" motors' cost/benefit ratio is completely not worth it.
