New 2014 GT Nav Not Working

Hi. Just picked up the car last night. Everything in the head unit seems to work except the Nav. Did a reset several times by removing the card but nothing. Dealer is about 45 min away so I'd like to see if I can fix it myself - without going crazy of course. Any ideas? The dipslay says "Welcome" and Tom Tom, but when I hit the Nav button nothing happens. Thanks.

Do you have someone close with a card you can borrow?
Or try your card in their nav unit.

Otherwise download tomtom home and try to update the card, or test to see TT can recognise the card.

Really the dealer should have run you through the head unit, so would have found the problem?

My thought is a bad card too. I was just wondering if it could be a know bug. I am going to try unhooking the battery to give the system a reboot to see if that does anything. Will also hit the Tom Tom site. Yes, whoever prep'd the car should have caught it. I caught it when the salesman was going over the features. Unfortunately it was at night so there were no service people available. Thanks for the quick reply.

Was there any resolution to this? My guess is the SD card is corrupt. You might be able to use TomTom home to "update" it (doubt it's running the latest version), and as long as it can read the license file it should lay down a new set of software and maps.

wow.. mine is doing it too.

i'm going to try fixing it tonight, hopefully will have some results to post. I did soft update check on card a few days ago, and nothing was found. system was working fine then though. Now its just "not there"

Here's a fun experiment when this happens (I have a video I keep meaning to upload to YouTube):

When your Nav isn't accessible, press the button on the steering wheel for voice commands, say "Navigation", and see what happens.

Update: Fixed it. Even though i did the updates just about a week ago, i plugged the card in, and tomtom home started to download GPS App software for headunit v. 10.8.yadayada. Once finished, plugged card in, turned car on, GPS started updating. 10 minutes later, restarted car - and it works.

Guess there was a bug in previous version??? either case, its turning on now.

Sorry for the delay - busy at work and traveling. Dealer replaced the Nav unit. They had it for 3 days too.

I had this happen on mine and after talking with TomTom they told me to reload the nav software. Problem is, they don't provide a download location if it doesn't show up in their stupid desktop software. So after a couple posts in there forum I got hold of the software, put it on the root of the SD card, started the car up and let it update. It hasn't failed once in 2 months after this.

Your case may be different though. You didn't say whether or not taking the card out and putting back ever got the system to recover. It did in my case, but only lasted a few days before hitting the nav button did nothing.

Anyway, hope this helps anyone else running into this.

Your CX-5 is possessed. Go hire an exorcist to drive out the Nav Demon!

Seriously though, I had the same problem where the icon of the car and the roads would twist and turn on the nav screen at short intervals and the dreaded "searching for GS signal" message would appear and no GPS signals would be there for 1/2 hour to an hour. Sometimes, I would even have to unplug the SD card and reinsert it to get the GPS signal back. I finally did regular updates of the SD card (not map updates) for free and I have not had the problem since. Try updating your SD card every couple of weeks and see if that cures the problem.

I don't use my Nav much, but for some reason on the way home from work today I pressed the Nav button. Nothing happened. I continued to try a few more times... nothing.

Came home and updated my card at the TomTom home site. We'll see how things go tomorrow.
