New 03.5 Mazdaspeed Protege Owner

I was driving a 2000 GMC Sonoma ZR2 4x4. I listed it on Craigslist and a guy offered to trade me a 03.5 Mazdaspeed Protege. He met me at my house and we traded straight up. I like the car a lot. There is a few cosmetic issues, the bumper is sagging on the driver side and missing the fog light delete mesh, the doors are a little dinged, and the side skirt is sagging.

The car has 120k and my truck had 164k. I can't find anything mechanically wrong. At times, it smells like it might be burning oil and when the turbo gets a little aggressive around 4000-6000 rpms a cloud of black smoke comes from the exhaust.

It is in better shape then my truck, so I am not too worried. I am willing to put some money into this car, not a ton, and have landed here for advice and guidance.

cool, welcome to the club! be sure to look up your production number! The previous owner could of been on here and you might be able to find out more about the cars past that way. BTW you need to post pics! Any mods?

Thanks for the welcomes! Production number is 1323. The only mods I know of are Injen CAI and HKS Blow Off there may be more, just not sure. I saw one member looked to buy the 1323 back in April and I am guessing he did not, I sent him a PM for details on his visit/test drive.

Ill have to post pics of the driver side soon to show damage. This is its pretty side lol

yah but ive never seen black smoke come outa my exhuast. and im back on stock tune for now and when i go WOT i run into the high 9's, and i still dont see black smoke. lol
