NEPOC Meet/Fun Run - Cape Cod, MA - 5/7

I went through one a long time ago in NY on I88. I was on my way back to school pretty late on a Sunday night and they were just stopping everyone like a roadblock checking for seatbelts, plates, inspection stickers, and other stuff.

I remember reading some research that showed that patrolling was more effective than roadblocks in reducing fatalities/accidents from drunk driving. However, I guess roadblocks generate more $$$.

EDIT: here it is:
During the holiday season, which is one of the most dangerous times for people to be on the road because of increased incidents of drunken driving, police frequently launch random roadblocks to apprehend drivers. Levitts research shows that those roadblocks are less effective than increased general surveillance.

Another edit: some interesting points on roadblocks in this document.

No, it was in CT. You've never gone through a checkpoint? In my area in CT they do them alot near holidays, some they actually stop traffic on main roads to check for seatbelts and drunk drivers and what not. This one looked like it was set up to get people like myself, with a stupid little something that doesn't really matter, but technically is illegal(front plate not mounted on front of car) or get people on their cell phones, since thats illegal in CT now too.

nope, i guess i heard of them, a long while back when drunk driving was becoming a huge issue, back in the 80's, but i've never gone through one...that would suck! i've got my plate in the front window too!

it just kills me...there is so much crime today and they have to hassle drivers who 99% ain't doin nothing wrong..:bs: ..ah...just just make my blood boil!!!(pissed)

Well, glad it looks like it'll be good weather. Its been a while since i got a good cruise in the convertible =P.
Yea, I usually know of roadblocks by word of mouth, at least when i was in CT full time. When someone went through one everyone would call everyone else warning of it. Not so lucky anymore. I'll have to read those tips later.

I had surgery on my right foot and I'm still recovering, but I plan on coming no matter what!
I might not be a challenger for the mini-golf crown, but at least I can meet you guys finally!
So make sure and give me (white P5) a little extra stopping distance/clearance. My foot is bandaged and bleeding.

I'm trying to convince my fiance to come. Anyone else bringing co-pilots?

haha...i'd have to drug my wife to come...i asked her and she was like...ya right..she absoulutley hates anything to do with automobiles...she sees them as a means of getting from point a to b, and they are a huge waste of money.....her idea of a cruise to the cape means hitting the gift shops every two minutes...and the beach!!

My fiance works with the Framingham PD. Apparently I trained her well because they are all impressed that she can talk cars, stereos, and baseball with them.
