Yup, splash shield in the way and the stupid cartridge filter. First time I changed the oil after I bought it, it took me over 24 hours to complete. I couldn't get the damn cartridge off. I used 2 different filter wrenches and an oil filter socket thing (that didn't fit), neither worked. Finally used my own damn strength to get the f#$%er off and strained some muscles. I was soooo pissed. At least now it's tightened only as tight as I can get it.. so it's more feasible to get off but still a pain.

What kind of clips did you get Zach? I have 2 bolts missing I believe.. heads broke off..

The first time I did it, I had to use a strap wrench and the mazda filter wrench.

i never changed the filter on my 3. had the dealer do it. i was too lazy

I bought a box of the u-spring nuts from autozone, then had some stainless phillips head screws that fit them and replaced all of them with that.
Will look similar to this. I wanted this type so that the nut wouldn't break off.

Also that filter wrench socket doohickey I showed earlier was purchased at Advance Auto for like 4-5 bucks, Mazda sells theirs for like 15-20. Its the 75.6mm 14 flute one.

The guy said it was because of the different weight oil. Whatever. As long as it costs me less than $30 I don't complain. It saves me an afternoon of doing it myself...and I just use their free wifi to get work done while I wait.

I'll be due for tranny fluid changes again in about 5-10K. That I'll do myself. Speaking of which...

Good evening....man what a day. Put a few hours in at the office and then spent the rest of the day at the hospital.

Tamz was having a diagnostic laproscopy done today the suspect was endometriosis but none was found. However the dr did remove four ovarian cysts, three being simple and one tubal. Explains the appendisitis like pain she's been having for months......

Good Morning NEPOCers!!!Figures the day I wanted to get the tent out of the attic and get it set up to air out and make sure I have everything for it, its going to rain. But My next couple weeks is nice. I work all this week, Then next week, work the 20th, or 21st, work sat sun mon, and then on vaca!!!Hopefully this next week and a half flies by.
