negative offset??

I like the look of wheels when the center of the rim is say, a few inches "deeper" than the outside edge of the rim. So the spokes as the come out from the center are moving away from the center of the car.

hard to describe.

If you have a sport compact car (or probably any other mag) issue from recently they have had an ad inside the front cover for BF Goodrich with a blue skyline with gold volks. That is kind of what I am talking about.

Is that a negative offset that gives it that looks? or what is it?

Could I use a 18" rim on my mazdaspeed and achieve that effect without rubbing or anything?

It's mostly just the style of the wheel and how wide it is. It might not actually have negative offset (truck wheels have negative offset). If you look at the wheel specs on Rays site it will show you.

Usually the spokes are very close to the face of the wheel to clear the brake calipers. But if the wheel is wide enough then the spokes can go in more.

There are a few wheels that have the style you are looking for although maybe not as ponounced as those Volk wheels, but those are 8.5 and 9.5 " wide !!

I dont think i want anythin THAT wide....

I was lookin at the MilleMiglia EVO5, which on tirerack and on some cars I have seen em on, has this "recessed center" effect

but I am worried that I will get them and in the MSP offset they wont look like this, but will have the center of the rim pretty much flush with the outside of the rim...

I think you are talking about conical style lugnut patterns, like on BMWs, you can get conversion kits, not sure where tho.
