Hi,
i bought an evo8 rear spoiler and would like to know how to modify it to suit the mazdaspeed protege. I woud like it to be exactly as in this photo below:

After doing some measurement, i found that i'll have to cut the wing a couple of inches. But it seems to be impossible to unscrew the 4 screws that is shown in the photo below:

I know many people has done it before, so will be great if someone can give some hints.

cheers

Cut the wing?! I'm not sure if anyone had to go to those lengths... I believe it will hang over the edges of the trunk half an inch or so and some people had issues with it rubbing but other than that I think you have to drill another hole or something and then voila you have massive downforce yo!

I'll try to find these people who allready done it and send them a PM.

i dont think you will be able to let it hang on the side as there will be no where to screw it on the bootlid.

The holes that you would have to drill in your trunk are like 1/2 inch away from the edge. Find the right size bolts that go into those two holes towards the rear of the spoiler and make sure you measure twice cut once. It's not had to install this spoiler.

Ohhhh you found me!!!! You dont have to cut the wing. You do have to cut the screw coming out of it. Cut it and smooth it. Then line up the one with the M6 nut, drill a hole and use that one. Then you will have to use a screw to secure the front. The base of the wing is metal so you can drill it. I know sounds complicated but its simple. Im at work right now but can post some of the installation pictures later on the weekend.

Vic.

Thats will be great mate.

I've got the spoiler off an Evo 8 MR.

Hope its not too wide.

Do i need to drill extra holes on the bootlid?

Or just extra holes on the spoiler itself?

I hope the base of the wing is metal, because mine looks like carbon fiber.

ok,
so this is how the base looks like:

So does any of the wholes align with the original holes that the protege use for the original wing?

Or i'll have to drill new holes on either the evo 8 wing base or the boot lid?

I managed to do some work on the Spoiler.
I used rivnuts in the new holes.

I painted the spoiler white on the sides and the middle is left carbon fibre colour.

However it is not sitting 100% flush on the bootlid.

Should i put like a rubber in between the lid and the spoiler?

Is only 2 screws holding the spoiler enough?

Below are some photos:

Yes there will be overhang, Your install looks just like mine but I used 3 bolts to hold mine in. Once it is all nice and fitted cover up the overhang and it will be all good.

BTW some love the spoiler, some hate it....... Just remember it is your car!!

IMO that's the only way you can pull it off. Like piranha and joka1 Low on 18's to even out the proportion of the wing. 4x4 mode and on smaller wheels you might as well just slap on apc stickers and clear tails

Looks as ricey as lambo doors when you put it on a regular protege
Its got a T3/T4 Turbo, so it is not normal protege ;)

How did you cover the overhang? also did you use any rubber between the lid and the spoiler?

I am thinking to use double sided tape and the 2 screws, what you think?
