need spare remote key

Just got an 08 CX-9 Sport. It has the switchblade style remote keyless entry, NOT the advanced key. I only have ONE key though, so need to get an extra that will un/lock the doors AND work in the ignition. I don't want to pay the dealer's $250+ fee. I see these on ebay, key blanks and the remote transponders. BUT, isn't there a resistor in this key somewhere that must be present (and with the appropriate resistance (ohms)), or the car won't start? And if so, how do i go about getting a replacement key for such? Thanks.

i can get a key cut myself, but just not sure if there is a resistor "appended" to it somehow or if it is within the remote fob itself??

thx

The key part has an ID chip in it. You can buy the key and get it cut, but the dealer still has to program it to the car.

The remote part can be programmed yourself.
