Need something to 'Grin' about? (like us MSP owners need another reason to Grin!)

This coming Friday, I will have had my MSP 3 weeks, and I'm sure some of you have heard me brag on how much I love that Kenwood sound System. Well; guess what? All of this time , and nearly 1,300 miles, I have been enjoying it 'all' without even the Subwoofer being 'on'!!!

I never thought it wasn't on, but then again, I have never owned a car that had a Sub. Oh; I had incresed the bass frequencies, and was pleased. But; this friend of mine that purchased his WRX about a week after I bought the MAZDASPEED mentioned during a ride that the stereo didn't have that much bass, although it sounded quite good.

So; last evening, after arriving home, I went back to adjusting, and decided to go listen in the trunk to check if the Sub was on. Nothing. I went back to the controls, going to the Sub adjustments, and then I thought, I will make it easy on myself; so I pressed the reset button on front of the unit. Bingo!!

What a difference!! Now, I will need to adjust the clock, etc... this morning, and then I will be really Rockin'!!

Cheers!

LOL

Like without the sub, the MP3 stereo sounds like crap.

And in the MSP, same thing because I tried it.

Get those ears checked boy :)

In all kenwood receivers, you can turn the sub on and off by holding down the AM button.

It's a whole other animal now - I love that car even more!! (mspb) (drinks)

I had the same problem. my dealer turned it off and i got into the car and was like this stereo sucks wtf? and my friend has an eclipse and his stereo was better than mine. I eventualy had to go to the car audio store by the house and ask. I felt like an a$$

Oh i didn't know you could turn it off either...all i thought if you wanted less bass, you just had to turn down the sub entirely. But when did that, there was next to no bass coming from the rest of the mid range speakers....

I gotta try this, listen to the high tones with mid bass coming from 6 speakers rather than 7.

I tried this function just a while ago...and i noticed that all my pre-settings went back to the default settings. There was next to NO bass at all coming from the rest of the mid range speakers even when i turned the bass settings up to MAX.

AGR#7, when you had the sub OFF, are you sure you really like the sound of it? OR were you just too excited that you finally got the car, you didn't even care what it sounded like?

To be honest with you, with the sub OFF, the system doesn't even sound as good as a stock Honda Civic with 4 speakers.

I can't listen to music in the MSP without the sub. (no)

agreed Limited,
i turned off the sub on the way home from school today. definety nothing to get wowed about. the sub really makes the whole thing work together.

Why can't we listen to music with the sub OFF with some bass from the mid range speakers?

Why does the Bass setting set to MAX doesn't seem to be producing any bass at all with the Sub OFF?

I want to hear the capability of those 6 speakers on it's own.

After all they are Kenwood speakers, it should sound decent!

I wondered about my settings after reading this thread. followed the instructions in the Kenwood manual to adjust the "Speaker Settings" and select the type of Woofer, i.e. Set SRC to "ALL OFF", and then push Q Button to select.

I found the Woofer set to "12" Type A" and the "Speaker Setting" was on "OFF." What the hell does this mean, and what should we set them to? My guess is the Woofer should be set to "8 inch" and the Speakers set to either "4/5"" or "6/6x9."

Any suggestions?

man, this head unit is so complicated...i never knew you can adjust the speaker setting even when the head unit is off....
cool..
i'll look into that.....

Oh yeah!! The Sub makes all the difference. No question. It sounded ok before, but I had all the bass settings dialed up.
It sounds really sweet now with everything working.

A system like this is naturally designed with the Sub in mind, to work together as a 'whole'.

If you want everything back to 'neutral' (Sub and all speakers working), just press the reset button on the front. A toothpick works great. Then; you can go in and fine tune all the frequencies. It does take a bit of time learning all the screens and the frequency settings on the Kenwood.

It is not cool, it is a total pain to change these while the head is off and then restart the head unit and relisten to the same part of the song and try and remember if what the previous selection sounded like compared to the new selection. Right now I have the woofer set to "8 inch" since that is the size (I believe) and I have the Speaker Setting to 6/6x9 but audible differences are tough. Anyone else looked into this. What I'd really like is someone to post there total settings, bass/mid/treble etc. since the defaults are easly improved.

Andrew: I only do the setting changes with the head unit on. I didn't even know you could make any changes without it on. If you change your settings with music playing, you will hear the changes.

Yes, the sub is a single 8".

One persons settings may not be ideal for another person. Different musical styles call for different EQ settings.
