No jokes guys and gals I need some real advice here. I have a P 2009 code. Ok no brainer right, faulty vtcs control solenoid, took it to local mazda dealer they concurred.2000 dollars will fix it! Guess what I told them to do! Researched and fixed it myself. Except when I get the whole thing and half the motor apart. No problems with the tumbler valves at all( have seen a lot of people asking about the procedure for removing the intake, sorry I didn't make a video but have pics and advice for any that ask). The engine has all the same drivability issues of a loose tumbler valve or two, same engine management code, but none of the mechanical symptoms. All the vics and vtcs valves are firmly in place and actuating. I'm stumped. Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.

If you say its the solenoid thats faulty, why are you pulling apart the intake?

Go to the scrapers and get another solenoid, it sits on a little bracket right ontop of the intake manifold, it has a green connector going to it.

Thank you very much for your response. I would point out that your advice is kind of like asking a guy with a broken toe whether he's taken his shoe of first.
Please to all who read this I need experienced technical help! Thank you.

He just answered your question, I don't understand what else you need to know. Replace the solenoid with the green plug on top of the intake manifold.

Yes I know, that was my first response as well. I've watched both the vics and vtcs actuators function normally while the engine "bucked like a raging' bull" . This is what lead me to believe that one or more tumbler valves had come loose. Now I know that this was not the case so..what else?

if you clear the code does it come back right away?

i would replace the solenoid and see what happens, not to expensive

Check your wires and connections to the solenoid,... you could have a weak or "intermittent" connection.

Code 2009 means: Variable tumble control solenoid valve circuit low input.

Our car calls that problem code P1569

That code is thrown and fixed in an electrical way. You said the valves are actuating so it it must be the wires, connector or the solenoid,... most likely the control solenoid as stated and quoted to you.

You really should replace it. (they're not $2000)

,... I've watched both the vics and vtcs actuators function normally ...
It only looked normal,... the VTCS actuator was moving but not properly,...

P.S. Don't forget the ECU needs to relearn the car after the battery is disconnected,... my cars idle bounces all around and almost stalls after a disconnect for about 100 miles.

Thank you everyone for your help.
The answer to my problem seems to be that, after 157,000 miles of almost complete highway driving, every part that was supposed to do its job for that duration. Failed.
So I did my 150K tune-up(EGR,coils, and MAFS). I can't complain. How many vehicles you know that can go 150K without more troubles than an oil change?
I love this car.
Than you all again.
