Need New Tires

That question is so general.

You on stock rims? Wanna stay at the stock size?

Hmm, you're in Montreal. You want snow tires in the winter and summer tires in the summer, or just a general all-season tire?

I bought Toyo Proxes 4 last summer. Highly recommended....HIGHLY. Supposed to be amazing on water. I previously purchased Goodyear Aquatreds for my Dad's '95 Protege. I used to blast through huge puddles on the 40 (I'm also in Montreal) at 120km/hr. No prob. The Aquatreds were AMAZING. With the Toyo Proxes though, the car swerves to the side at 90km/hr. I don't feel as safe as I did with the Aquatreds, that's for sure! That's my 2 cents. The Toyo's look cool though. And they're used exclusively in Tokyo Drift.

Also, a former neighbor of mine once bought tires that looked extremely similar to the Aquatreds for cheaper. He said they were made by a company that also produces Goodyear. I'm guessing he means Kelly Tires, made by Goodyear. He told me he did 140 on the Metropolitan and loved 'em! I was out driving on the Metropolitan on that same day in the rain and feared for my life at 80 km/hr... No joke, I was super tense. Always felt safe with my Aquatreds.

Matching stock size??? For all season touring Toyo TPT...Quiet ride, good wear, good in light snow, wet, etc...

Toyo Proxes4 all the way!!! I've got them on, and i love them.. I used to have the crappiest tires ever made to mankind, Kumho Ecsta 711.. omg these sucked...

Recommended:

-Toyo Proxes4
-Falken Azenis
-Kumho SPT
-Yokohama ES100

*(these are just from what i've heard)*

of course tho, it also depends what you're gonna be doing with the tires.. (daily driven/track) also depends on how the weather is where you're at..(rainy/cold/hot)

These are just what i would go with.. hoped this helped!

Peace,
RJ

Nope, you got it all wrong...Worst tires ever...stock Dunlops...those are scary..

Sorry - guess I should have been a bit more specific. I just moved to Ohio - looking to get a good set of all season tires to put on my stock wheels. I put a lot of mileage on my car so I'm not looking for super high performance but good thread life. Stock size P195/50R/16 and I've got quotes for stock size, P205/55R/16 and P205/50R/16. Also read about speed ratings and since stock is a V rated tire recommendation are not to go down in rating. All the quotes I got were for H speed rated tires.
Confused! Any suggestions are appreciated!

Excellent - thanks for the update. I just moved to Ohio - oh how I miss Montreal!!! I would love to be speeding on the Met!!!

I got a quote for Toyo Proxes PX4 P195/50/R16 US $120/tire. I also got a quote for Kelly Navigator Gold but that size changed to 205/55R/16.
Going to go to Good Year tomorrow and I'll ask about the Aquatreds.

Thanks!

Anyway, just giving my 2 cents. MOST (not all) brand-name tires are good enough for summer's dry pavement. We're not talking drag-racing here. I get the best tires for ice/snow for winter and the best for rain in the summer. For those that are super excited about Toyo tires...YES, ther're great quality tires. I paid about $600 CND for them. But I was so VERY disappointed with them in rainy conditions. I wasn't gonna sell my new tires for something else. I kept denying their rain performance to myself...but nope, never again. And it really surprises me because the tread looks like it'll blast water outta the way. I miss my Aquatreds :( Mine were Aquatred 3 when I bought them a few years ago. Not sure if they still make the Aquatred or if it comes in our stock size. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Toyo Proxes 4 are not quite all-season tires; they suck in the snow. The best bang-for-your-buck A/S tire is the Falken 512 in 205/50-16. I've been running mine for about 6 months and they have never hydroplaned and were quite decent in an inch of fresh snow. They hang on suprisingly tightly for an A/S tire in dry conditions, and they're cheap--$71/each at edgeracing.com.

I also have the Toyo Proxes 4 on my MP5. I think their performance is above average, but probably you can get a different tire such as the Falken 912s mentioned earlier that has better performance for the same or cheaper price. The main reason I like the Proxes 4 is for the looks though. It all depends on what you are looking for.

I just got the Falken ze 912 on my 2002 MP5.. in the 195/50R16.. and so far in the rain.. its Great.. dry.. WOW.. i live in Vancouver.. but so far.. i love these tires compared to the Dunlops...
