I just had a nail removed at a tire shop today and asked the guy to reccomend a tire and give me a price while I was there.

He said Goodyear Eagle F1 AS would be the best choice....

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Sounds like he's just selling you the most expensive tire he's got on the rack

I have Yokohama Parada Spec 2's and they are obsolutely awesome!

Tire Rack has them for $133.00

So you're looking at around $600.00 after taxes for an awesome set of tires. 225/40/18's

I am also looking into tires and the Goodyear tires he recommended are only about $10 more a tire at tirerack.com and are the same size as originals. However if you are looking into changing tire size the I would go with the Goodyear Eagle F1 All season. They have a 420 treadwear rating which is much higher than the Yokohama (which are 300 treadwear rating) and with the $50 rebate (ends may 31) from Goodyear puts them at $132.50 a tire. These tires are also some of the highest rated.
Now if you want to stay with the original tire size I was look at the Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S for $136 with a 400 Treadwear rating. These tires are the mazdaspeed6 oem replacements.

The only concerns with different tires sizes are speedometers will report different speeds and the odometer will report different mileage.

i got the eagle f1 A/S for my ms6, i love them.
not only do they perform awesome, but they look sweet too.
plus if im not mistaken they are the 2nd best rated all season tire on the market.

^^ no kidding :) Here's another: Falken 452's are excellent tires and are not too expensive. FYI, 235/40's are the closest size to the original tire outer diameter, so that size will have the least effect on speedo/odo readings.

The good thing about tires is that, while they are relatively expensive, they're consumable parts, so if you get one that you don't like, just try another kind next time.

I'd also advise against all-season tires. If you're dead set on running one set all year round, ok go with them, but you really can't beat two dedicated sets of winter/summer tires mounted on their own sets of wheels. Only arguement against them is price, but having the best in both seasons is more than worth it IMO.

I just got those tires removed from my car. They are the biggest piece of garbage ever made.

I didn't look where you are located, but if you plan on driving in the snow at all, forget it.(flame2)
