Hey guys, can I get some advise on what to do? I need to get new brake pads for my p5, and would like to know which set I should get, and where I should get them from. I found this from one of the sticky, but I need to make sure they are the right one. Should I get the Posi, the Axxis or the Hawk???, and which material???

I use the Hawk HPS brake pads and love them. I got mine at Pep Boys. They had to be special ordered but it only took 3 days.

I have the Axxis Metal Masters. They work very well and aren't very dusty, no more that the stock were.

hit up Steve (TurfBurn) at NSN, I'd recommend the green stuff for daily driving

he's got a thread going in the AV/AMM section with prices

KVR carbon brake pads. not dusty at all.. will work very good since you live in a warm place and they are grabby.

I just got my second set of Hawk HPS from Tire Rack ($71, 2nd day) but had to wait a bit as they just changed the part number due to a slight redesign. It looks like the new pads may no longer have the problem of the little metal clips grooving the rotors. Anyway, they have very good cold bite and are as easy to modulate as stock (I don't have ABS). Wear rate has been good. I thought of changing to a different brand but I'm happy with these. I still run stock in the rear drums and braking seems excellent to me. You should switch to DOT4 fluid if you haven't already.

What do you use your car for? I've used Hawk HPS for daily driving (HP+ for track) and have been happy. Just make sure you rip the excess tabs off before putting them on, something I learned the hard way. :)

how fast did you go thorugh your first pads?

i installed the wanger pads last spring and they have been great. they have a lifetime warranty so they will be free from now on.

the fronts are 44.XX and the rears are 27.XX. i use the brakes a lot with the driving i do and they are equal if not a little better than the stock lads.....

why spend more if you don't have to????

I installed the posi-quiet ceramics up front, along with drilled/slotted rotors about 2 months ago. Low dust, no squeal, bite better than stock. I am very happy with them, especially for the price.

what do you guys think about these? I just went and check and I have about 60% on my front, and about 40% on the back, so i am in no hurry, but my mechanic is a good friend of mine, and told me that I should get the brakes myself (instead of going through his company) so that it can be cheaper. the OEM pads are over 60 some dollar front only, so I want to look around. My car is pretty much stock, use for daily driving, and I don't brake a lot (downshift baby!) you guys have any good website for brakes? and does protege 5 and protege share the same size brake pads?

I have Endless brakepad from AutoRnD. Although I haven't get a chance to try other ones, but they're pretty nice. Great initial response and much easier to stop the car.

When you say "endless" brakepad, do you mean that they supply it to you?? How much are they and where can I get them?? =p

I hope you're not serious..

Endless, a company that's race proven. Many of JGTC car uses Endless products in terms of brake. Anyway, you can get them thru AutoRnD (Rishie), as they're North America Endless distributor. Contact Rishie or any AutoRnD representative on this board, they'll set you up, or just call Rishie @ (408) 635-0000

got you man..yeah don't know much about anything =p I am a idiot what can I say! thanks Jliao

Ok, I'm going to get in on this too.... I have an 03 P5 and I need new front pads only (they are at 30% according to the dealer). My car is a daily driver (somewhat aggresive driver) and once a month autox-er. In case it matters, it is VERY hot and VERY humid here. I have, and plan to keep for now, the stock rotors and calipers. Any reccomendations? Sources? (scratch)

found some pretty good prices on tirerack.com...but still haven't decided if I want them or something else yet.

Orderedmy new pads.

I ordered my new brake pads. They haven't come in yet. I asked some SCCA racers (not autocross, but real racing)who run the Alfa Romeo Race Shop my boyfriend works at in Houston, and they reccomended PORTERFIELDs. They have used them on both street and race cars. Once, one guy took a set off of his street car and stuck them on a car that was being used in a 12 hour enduro, and the pads were dead when it was over, but they made it through the race. And they had been on the regular car for a while already. I'll post my results with them when they come in and I get them on my car. If anyone is interested in getting Porterfield pads, I can point them in the right direction.
