2002 Honda S2000
Hello my former Mazda friends. Its been a while since I have been through here, but guess what, im back! Well, after my MSP, which I still miss dearly, I went over to the dark side (the Honda dark side) and purchased an 02 S2000. I must say, what a car, nothing else needs to be said. But... I have hit that point in my life, where i'm 28, looking to buy a house, start a family, blah, blah, blah, and I have gone back to school. You know, the s2k is everything I ever wanted (well, minus some more torque) but i'm not sure its practical anymore. I have to store it in the winter months, and drive a 20 year old Civic. Ok, what i'm getting at is I think until I get out of school, I should go down to 1 car, that I can drive all year round, and save some money. I'm tired of the s2k breaking the bank with car payments and insurance. So naturally, I came back here. I am looking into an 05-06 Mazda 6s with a manual. Now I got really excited, cause I wanted a practical daily, but not boring, and I thought the 6 would be perfect. My only question to you folks, is I am seeing a horrible trend of complaints about reliability, almost German like. And that, scares me away. I would like some honest feedback from some 6 owners. I need my next car do be dead reliable. I mean, hell, I rev my s2k to 9k everyday, and with 90k miles on it, I have not done a thing but change the oil. But I see transmission problems, check engine lights coming on constantly, and I don't want to trade my fun reliable sports car, for a daily thats in the shop every month. Sorry for the huge ramble, I've never done that before!

GEt the six its reliable, just do like you do with your S2k change the oil and rev it to six not nine, honda motors are made for that.

MS6 is reliable as long as you keep it stock. I have a 05 MS6 and it hasn't given me any grieve what so ever. If you're looking for a family car with bit of fun, then MS6 is the car for you.
I'm the same age as you and I would strongly advise you to keep the S (if all possible) and sell your Civic. You will miss it dearly once it's gone. Just like I missed my Civic SI and the screaming VTEC. :(

Didn't make them in 05.

The MS6s seem to be reliable when left stock. Don't go messing with it and you should be just fine.

Take a good long look at the V6 one too. The reliability is inherently going to be better vs. a turbo car, and the power is still pretty good. If you don't need all 270 horses, the v6 is a great option, with a less finicky clutch (and cheaper!)

Hey 4drboost. Reading your topic, you are looking at a Mazda6 S, not a Mazdaspeed 6 correct?

If so, I drive a 2007 Mazda 6S with a manual transmission. I absolutely LOVE this car. I traded in my gas guzzling truck for it. I have had it 2.5 years and have 49,800 miles on it, all by me. I have had not one issue with this car. Here is why I love this car:

-I pull 29mpg on the highway (75mph w/o A/C) and average 26 all summer 50% highway with A/C
-The V6 has plenty of power to do whatever you want
-The 5-speed manual's gearing matches well with the V6
-FWD does great in snow with snow tires (first FWD car I have owned)
-Maintenance is super easy. 6qts of Mobile 1 5w-20 and 3qts of 75w90 gear oil for tranny
-Handling is great
-Brakes do well during "spirited" driving
-Fit and finish is very nice. I have no creaks or rattles
-The interior noise w/ motor running is quieter than any of my parents Lexus

Complaints/Issues:
-Shifter is a bit notchy. Hasn't changed with different gear oil.

I think that is all. If you have any other questions, let me know.
