I need help/tips with dealing with the dealer as far as pricing is concerned. The dealer I went to is in Union NJ Rt.22 (Maxon) and has a sticker price at 21k and another sticker next to it with it marked up to 23k (freight,warranty....etc) This is before the rebates and it will come out to probably around 24k with Tax Title and License. I was originally going to buy a regular protege (had it for a week) and decided to get the speed before I signed any paperwork on the regular protege. They are currently in the process of getting me approved for a loan but after reading the prices some of you have gotten your speeds for I feel dirty....I'm just happy I didn't sign anything yet. I need links to real dealerships online in the tri-state area so that I can print them out and approach my dealer with them...I just need to know what I should do and how to go about it. (Sorry I'm 20 years old first car purchase under my own name I know I have a lot to learn). Thanks ;)

I got mine for $19,000 with the rebate, and I'm from the same area. Don't pay a dime over sticker before rebate.

I got mine for $18,900 out the door in KY.

Tell them that that you want it for $x and if they say no, walk to a place that will.

im not trying to be rude in any way, but if you do a search, there is about 15 threads worth of pricing discussions that will really help you out...btw welcome to the board

Don't worry we got your answers right here.

Do not pay over MSRP. The car is 21,000 - 1500 in rebates. Then you go down from there. I would suggest 1000 MINIMUM to start.....that way your looking at 20,000 - 1500 for the car.

When you start the conversation you tell them you drove the SRT-4, the Spec-v and an SVT focus. Shows your serious about buying a car, and that your an intelligent (sp) buyer trying lots of other cars. Also this way he knows you have 3 other cars to choose from and several different dealerships that your are considering.....just my .02

Instylz, II-Savy is right, neg the price of the car fisrt. I just got my 3.5 Titanium in Boston...I got the guy to get me 2200 off (not a rebate...he said there was none) as well as 1500 more for a trade in. That came to as low as 17 something, and after some other items, I ended up financing 18,200.

Since this is a first time buy, it's essential to look up info on Edmunds.com. Also, go to thier car buying tips and read a story called "life of a car salesman" or somthing to that effect. At the end of the day, you'll understand the negotiating process and you'l have all the confidence you need. Also, learn about the TMV price, get your credit score so you can learn what is a good finance rate, know the inventory of the dealer, goto a largest dealer first, and then (if it's even needed) a smaller competitor.
The big dealer will make it work but you have to walk out on them once, and when you retrun...ask them to get it done and they will. Remeber, the sales person is not the enemy...it's the dealership itself.

Good luck

BEST CHANCE

Talk to my brother JOHN PUJOLS at the dealer. Just ask for him
and he will give you the best deal. He has a 2003.5 TI speed.
I told him about the site and he loves it here. Tell JOHN or HANK THE TANK that Dan, thats me, said to pass by.:D

Defintely tell the salesperson that you test drove the SRT4, Spec V, SVT Focus and such. I told the sales person the Spec V had Cruise Control, Power Sunroof.....and a bigger engine. I was like they are similar cars but Spec V has more toys and 3-4k less in price. THey'll be silent for a while and then will try to work with you. I got my car for 19k out the door, without rebates or anything. Set a price for yourself before going inside the dealership so you will be satisfied......we don't like buyers remorse hehhehehehhee. Good luck.

Just got mine yesterday from Crystal Auto Mall (also on rt 22).

After all was said and done, I got it for 19.8 after TTL and Rebate. They brought the actual price of the car down to 20.2k, then factored everything else in ($1500 + $500 grad cash).

I dealt with a guy named Angel there, but he really wasn't the greatest salesman. Eventually we got them to bring out a manager (Abraham Ali was his name, I think we got that egyptian connection going on). He was a good guy, and helped me out a lot. Don't know if you can speak to him directly, but if you do, my name is Ahmed if you want to drop a name to get a similar price.

That's where I bought my MP5, on Rte 22. I bought it through Scott Williams, their Internet Sales guy. I'd shoot him an email (scottwilliams at imanagersales.com) and ask for a quote, tell him your serious, and that several guys on this website recommended him. He gave me a very good deal on my Midnight Blue Mica '02 Protege5, $400 over invoice w/1.9% financing over 3 years.

** Edit **
I bought my '02 Protege in Feb. '02 so my price and financing deal reflects what was available then, but it was a darn good deal. This edit is in response to OpticalElusion's comment below.
