Need help with "cubby" removal

Want to remove the molded insert for that nearly useless storage area on left side of the steering wheel on my "16" I was able to reach under dash and try pushing it out but no luck. Does anybody know if I can get this piece out without removing the lower left side dash panel?

There's probably a little catch tab that needs to be depressed with a thin plastic wedge tool. Press the thin tool under the trim, once it stops, apply pressure and a slight prying motion.
