[begin being an ass]

Support the programmer man, go buy the software. It isn't that expensive

[end being an ass]

Oh find a buddy/someone with a corporate version of a decoder. They pay out the ass for the ability to distribute.

where from?

uhh you get it from google, the provider of all things :).. computer wise, heres a tutorial on how to make a good backup copy of a real DVD MOVIE

NOW in order to get a good copy of your movie without all the fbi BS and P-UOP (prohibited user operations = when you try clicking menu it wont let you go, i hate this BS personally) and also macrovision protection (you cannot copy the dvd using a dvd player to a vcr etc)

DVD Decrypter = this program is FREE (legaly free to use) it can rip any dvd, doesn't matter the protection it has cuz the CSS protection on DVDs is a joke anyways

with dvd decrypter RIP the dvd to your HDD, it makes a 1:1 copy on your HDD and removes all the macrovision BS and CSS protection, the copy is unencrypted

VOB BLANKER = Free again! leagaly, use this to remove stupid FBI warnings and other stuff you really didnt ask for when paying for your DVD. open the dvd backup on HDD using this utility, click on blank at the top and then Auto T, this will remove the useless extras on the DVD as well as anoying stuff makeing the movie itself higher quality (dvds are usually ~9GB you can only burn 4.3GB on a DVDR SL) it is best to blank to another HDD on another IDE/SATA/SCSI ch, it goes WAY faster

DVD SHRINK = FREE! (too good to be true) this utility can reencode a dvd in lower quality to reduce the total size, after blanking run DVD shrink, open up the blanked DVD image on your 2nd drive, select if you want to keep subtitles and other lang the dvd has to offer. click on menu, change the menu down to approx 55%-60% (you wont notice the diffrence really). doing this will make your main movie go up in quality, you can get around 70-90% of the original quality of the dvd. when you are ready hit backup, and back the blanked image up to your 1st HDD where the original 1:1 copy is. once backed up burn with any program. nero works good. all you are doing is just burning a bunch of files onto a DVD so it doesn't matter if you are using + or - R media, it burns it as a DVDROM so all players can read it.

thanks guys.

andrew - you're not being an ass; I understand exactly what you mean and tend to agree with it. most of the decent decoders I found were fifty bucks and that's just ridiculous for a simple program.

everyone else - thanks for the responses. perhaps I'm not fully explaining my needs or maybe I'm not understanding exactly what you're telling me about: when I say that I need a "decoder" I'm simply wanting something to allow her DVD drive to play DVDs. I don't need to copy them nor does she have the space to rip them to her drive. I'm simply looking for the "decoder"/player software. thanks again :D
