2001 Protege LX 2.0
While looking around Tirerack.com for Rims for my 01' Protege LX, I notice that the recommended offset was much different if i choose a Protege with a 5 lug compared to my 4 lug pattern.

Ex. Looking at the Kazera KZ-R 17x7 Rims
5 Lug Protege (ES,MP3) suggest an Offset of +50mm
but
4 Lug Protege (DX,LX) suggest an Offset of +38mm

Are the 4 lug such a big diffence in Offset compared to the 5 lug or is the site not correct in their sizzing?? Anyone No??? Any Help would be great.

I would like to know also. For the 17x7 with a 215/40/17 and a 16x7 with a 215/45/16.. Will 17x7.5's fit?? I want Rota's and that's all some of them come in. Thanks!!! This is all for the 4 lug also.

All the 4-lug Protege wheels have a +45 mm offset, not +38. Don't use a +38 mm offset as it will probably rub. The P5's have a +50 mm offset. I'm not sure about the MP3 and the ES 5-lug but I believe they are +50 mm.

17 x 7.5" will fit but you will probably need +48 mm offset to avoid interference problems.

Ok, So is the +45 offset for 16" rims or 15" from the factory 4 lug Pro??
I have Checked other sites that estimate the proper offset for the vehicle and all seem to show the 4 lug being able to use a much lower offset. Can anyone else confirm how big the offset difference is with a 4 lug pro compared to the 5 lug.

Here is the definitive information taken from TheMAN's FAQ.

All 4-lug Protege wheels: +45 mm
'01-'02 ES and '02 P5 16" wheels: +50 mm
I'm not quite sure what you're asking but somewhat less offset than stock can be used depending on wheel diameter, width and tire size. Too much less and you will have interference problems. For example, my wheels are 16 x 7", +42 mm offset with 205/45 tires and I have no problems.

Well What i am really asking is - If i want to buy rims that have wheel diameter of 17x7 with a P205/45/17 tire what is the minimium offset i would need to prevent rubbing and does it also depend on the style of rim

I dont know if this is any help , I have a 2001 LX with 17 X 7.5 rims with a 40 offset and 4X100 bolt circle . I have 205/40/17's mounted with no rubbing ,I am lowered on Tein S tech spring ,2"drop . From the looks of it I could go with a 205/45/17 .

Wow That seems to confirm want I have been checking online
You would never be able to put a 17x7.5 rim with an offset of 40mm on a 5lug protege lowered 2" - I wonder how low the offset could be with a rim size of 17x7, I have a hard time finding nice rims with an offset of +45 or greater

Looks like you got lots of room, Well if you got 17x7.5 with a 40mm offset - I should be able to do the same - I was just a little worried that i would by a set an end up needing a very high offset like the 5lugs do.

Car looks good. Full MP3 body kit??
