Need Help - Just Bought CX7 and I notice engine noise at lower gears

I just purchased a used 2008 CX7 with 16,000 miles.

I've had a loaner one for the past two days. Today when I picked up the one I was purchasing, I noticed a little different engine noise when I accelerated. It's difficult to describe, but it sounds kinda like a diesel engine rattle at lower gears. I asked the car salesman and he explained that it was probably because of the fresh oil change. Is that a plausible explanation? It only makes the sound through 1-3 gear then its gone.

What should I do? I just drove it off the lot and now I'm thinking I should have waited and gotten a better answer from a service mechanic or not taken the vehicle until they fixed the sound.

Any help would be appreciated.

they probably put crappy gas in it and the engine is pinging

stay off boost for now and fill it up with premium later

Thanks for your replies.

Is the oil change explanation even plausible?

Another question - the finance guy was trying to sell me the Mazda Total Care Extended Warranty 5 year/75,000 mile for $1,695. I thought that was too much for a warranty, is it worth it? Now that I'm hearing things, maybe I should throw down the extra $30 a month.

I just bought a 2008 CX-7 AWD GT last Friday and purchased the Mazda EasyCare Extended warranty. I paid $1888 for 120 months/100K miles with a $500 deductible.

No. An oil change is not responsible for your noise. Mazda & Ford have the same warranty. Check with the Ford/Mazda site to get the "suggested" price and bargan down from there. I have no personal experience with Ford/Mazda prices but, I understand that there is often close to 100% makeup so there maybe lots of bargaining room. Ed
