Need help identifying this part (front bumper install)

Hello,

While removing the front bumper on my 2011 CX-9, something fell off near the right front wheel. A piece of plastic that ChatGPT identified as the "front bumper air deflector duct".

I couldn't figure out where it would go or how to attach it, so I put back the front bumper without installing it.

My question is, how important or critical is this part? I'm trying to avoid having to remove the front bumper again just for it, but I will do it if there are safety concerns.

Thank you in advance.

Hey I was curious so I used Google lens on your image and added cx-9. The top portion of this item below looks vaguely similar. The other thing to try is check the diagrams on the official Mazda parts website. Hope you can put it back from the top.

The one I circled is marked as seal plate left. You found seal plate right. Either way, you lol because it looks like the top part broke off? I would try to slide it back on.

Thank you guys! Does any one have a picture (or can provide one) from where exactly the part needs to fit? I have no idea even after watching some videos of people replacing the radiator.

no it's not

I get that the public parts catalog is hard to use, but always pay attention to the "D-code" (what's highlighted, and marked as "#" in the public parts catalog's first column) against the part number list. Otherwise, it's easy to make mistakes

it looks like they are air guides/diverters to keep air going into the radiator rather than around it... I would definitely pull the bumper back off to put it in, or you risk engine cooling/AC performance issues

Thanks for confirming. I will def check this again and try to slide it in!
it won't... it fits over the bumper rebar... that means the bumper cover must come off to install it... you can't install it while the bumper cover is still on
