Hey all...My friend got a warning yesterday because his headlights has eyelids and that his windshield has a design on it but it's less than 6 inches...are these things against the law??? PLEASE HELP ASAP!!! he has only 48 hours...

I have been told that anything blocking your field of view is against the law. When I got a university parking pass from the university cops they told me to remove the permit that hangs on my rearview mirror when I was driving because it was against the law. I guess it is just up to the cops, whether or not they want to be pricks.

Cameleon where did the cops stop your friend? Man that cop must have had a bad day to be such a dick... give a 48 hours for this.

I have a friend that has 20% tint front and back ( and the car is black too, lol ) and he got 1 small warning once... but that may be luck!

Where is the design on the windshield? Because you can have a "banner", so if the design is where the banner should be, not bigger i think it should be ok?

I think it was ville st-laurent...he has a design but it must be like 4 inches max. but it's not transparent...but I don't that matters...and the he has the eyelids on his headlights...what about that?? I hope they don't force him to remove them...the car is nice...anyone know any sites that would have that info for Canada??

Here in the states you can have anything you want on the windshield, just as long as it doesn't break that 6" inch rule. Example, some cars have tinted glass as the very top of the winshield and they can come like that from the factory. I'm not sure about the eyelids on the headlamps though. I wish I had more to tell you, but I'm not sure how things work north of our border.

Check your local traffic laws for your Province and city...That's your best bet.

I live in Canada! I have been pulled over before (Speeding). I also have Eyelids/Eyebrows on my Protege 2.0 GT.
I asked the officer about that before he had a chance to look for himself and get vex and give me a ticket for it. He explained that eyebrow's are not illegal as long as they DON'T cover turn signal and/or reflector at the side of the headlamp.

And about the windshield, I have vinal/vynal (sunlight silver) on top reaching just below the rear view mirror, nothing said about it and I also have vinal/vynal on the bottom of my windshield stoping just below the steering wheel. That he was getting vex about, but he did explain that because the vinal/vynal did not block my view of the road it was alright for him but maby other officer's would!!

Just something i've delt with here.

P.s Hope you guys don't mind me posting in here. I really wish my dealer would've told me about the mp3 before i bought the Protege......Don't get me wrong I love the car either way!!!!

Check with the QTM (Quebec Ministry of Transportation). They are the only ones who have laws covering automobiles. The eyelids should be fine during the day, but at night they can make you take them off. As far as the banner, check with the QTM.

There are really no limits to what a manufacturer can do with the design of a headlight. And it shows signs as all cars have different shape and size headlights. So someone putting eyelids on headlights is only changing the style. There shouldn't be anything wrong with it.

There are lighting standards that must be adhered. The car manufacturers design the headlamp shape and bulb arrangement a certain way to meet these standards. Changing it means that you have changed the functionality and maybe the safety of your vehicle.
