need an SUV any opinions?

ok i showed him the forrester/outback, and he hated it. he/we dont like ford, or dodge. so im pretty narrowed down to a pathfinder, 4 runner, Qx4. he is a good driver. i drove one of the qx4's the other day and man they are slow. but eh, my dad doesnt need speed. he is a good driver im certain of that. but if you have any other suggestions feel free to drop em in

PSST, toyota rav4!

toyota quality, small enough to be maneuverable and fun to drive (I've driven them before) and get decent gas mileage, and you can get them in manual (drive)

if I had to buy an SUV I'd probably get a rav4

btw, the qx4 you drove must have been prior to the upgrade to 240 hp (or whatever it is they have now) because they used to be greatly underpowered

edit: oh yea, since the rav4 starts out less expensive, you can find a newer one with fewer miles, longer warranty, less problems, etc.

well, he wont be autoxing lol. he hates manual.(which is great cause he never asks to borrow my car unless he has to) and he needs biger than a rav4. but not suburban big.

maneuverable is good around town too

but ok

I guess a pathfinder would be my next choice then, not TOO huge

get one after the 240 hp upgrade

I can recommend a Rodeo. I've had two of them and they were great. NO reliablity issues either. They hold a lot of stuff, but don't feel huge when parking and driving. It is also one of the best handling SUV's and has decent power and in the later years push button 4WD. Or get an older higher-end Honda Passport (just a rebadged Rodeo) as I believe they could be had with leather option, etc.

I second that! I have a 2 door Rodeo Sport... love it!

you put your birth date in your profile

I also suggest Forester or Legacy ouT-BACK.
I personally recommend against SUV, but if you really want to get one, I suggest the Toyota Rav4.

I know it's not as nice as a subaru or an infinity, but... I loves ma Jeep Cherokee. 139k and NO problems. AWESOME winter car (the speed will be hibernating soon) and they are going for WAY under $14k, at least around here they are.
Jeep brand SUV gave me impression that they don't have good brakes.
I saw 2 cars being rear ended by a Jeep Cherokee and a Grand Cherokee in 2 months. One of our member in Seattle, Chris, his P5 also got rear ended by a Jeep Cherokee a few months ago.

well i actually suggested a jeep grand cherokee. but they are sooo fing popular out here that i couldnt stand being that common (same goes for exploder, escape). if i go to an auction and find a 2002 trailblazer for an awesome price i would get it tho. no matter how popular those are i still think they are sweet rides after driving one.

I'd stay away from Trailblazers... as well as virtually anything domestic. (in this price range anyway) terrible reliability ratings throughout.

yea, im not that crazy about domestic cars at all. but my friend has an 2003 Envoy. i have had to borrow it to tow my jetski a few times, and man i love that thing. it drives great, handles great for what it is. and surprisingly comfortable. but thats an envoy not a trail blazer. but we will see. there is no real hurry

yeah, once you get into the 30k+ range things get a lot better. The people (that I know anyway) who swear by their domestic suvs are usually the types that trade them after a couple years (or are leasing them). I dont' care how bad a car is, they'll generally cooperate for the first couple years. Since you're looking into used, reliability should be one of your top concerns. I think the Pathfinder's a solid choice. Since they're coming out with a new model, you should be able to find a bargain.
