need advice from 10+ psi users

yep rods are the weak point...funny thing is i got flamed when i first came on here preaching about that...then engines started popping and people started wondering....fuel adjustments will help with detonation, but getting rid of the gas efficiently ie exhaust and dp is the best way to help guard against bent rods...i use the term guard gingerly as the FS series motor will go over 10lbs its just a question of time...what irritates the s*** out of me though is that mazda has known this about the fs series all along and yet still slapped a turbo on it...an fe series would of been a much better choice in my opinion...

Could you make a case that 3" turbo-back will be better at guarding against bent rods than an 3" exhaust that still uses the stock S-pipe? Just thinking out loud.

Read that.

There are quite a few people that are rebuilding engines after running the amount of boost you are talking about. Take that as an omen. 505Zoom was running that much boost for a while (while pulling a bunch of timing), but I would like to see what his stock rods look like. Maybe he'll chime in with some advise. :)

505zoom still has the stock engine. His turbo gave up after he boosted 16-18psi for a while. now he has the gt28rs with stock engine.

the more the exhaust can flow, the more heat can get out of the motor. so i would think a big exhaust should help out reliability a bit.

I think at 14psi you should invest in another engine as a supporting mod. Have it ready in the garage.

i was boosting 14psi with methenol and getting no deto. so you may want to look into that, could get you a few more hours out of the motor, but on the stock rods i think its just waiting to blow if you wanna boost that high. sorta like those n/a tripoint engineering motors, lots of power and they last like 30 hours lol

i ran 17psi on race gas at the track and drove home fine. Of course it wasnt the smartest thing to do, but it ran out of injector and cut out once i was in the top of 2nd. Ended the run in 4th at 9.29 at 77. Woulda been an easy 8.8 @ 83 if it didnt run out of injector.

12psi is the safe max. 14 is just asking for trouble, because eventually it will blow up. If you cant afford the new motor, dont take it up.

I dont know what rasing the boost will do but I can tell you that I just installed my boost guage and I spike to ten for like a sec then settle to 8psi to redline. My car runs fine But this is my stock boost i have no boost controler. My mods are only a corksport exhaust and injen (converted to short ram) intake and nkg zfr11 something or another spark plugs. I dont like the plugs your running my car ran like s*** after like 1000mi with them on.

mine went from the rod bolt being loose. we will break down the engine soon and let you know more. also ill have a new thread posted with pics and the full 411 and dealer ordeal. its discreetspeed, star80 and me thats working on mine at the time. so its not safe to say really any psi is good. mazda SUCKS! lol jk, but i can say i havent been happy with the cars performance/problems since i have had it. i love the style and look though.

I got new rods and pistons if you need them...cheap.
