well i know the place in Mamaroneck ny sells the cobb ap for the same price as everyone else and may set up a package deal for you to buy the cobb, tune and dyno all in one...well whatever you do goodluck with it all

i emailed amr performance in Mamaroneck, NY and this is the conversation we had....

hi how are you. my name is Gary and I own a 2007 mazdaspeed 6 and was interested in a tune for my car due to the fact that I added a few too many aftermarket parts. I was wondering if you have ever tuned this type of car before and what the process is for it. I haven't purchased any type of aftermarket tuning product like a cobb ap or anything and wanted to see what your opinion was on them . so I was curious to know what my options are on tuning and what prices would be. also I would like to know the risks something like a tune could do to my car and if you warranty your work. I also noticed on your website that you have an all wheel dyno and was curious to know after the tune if it could also be dynoed and for what price. thank you for your time and am looking forward to hearing from you.

Gary,

For the MAZDASPEED vehicles we use COBB APv2.0.

The COBB unit is $695.00
Dyno Tuning Session is $450.00

Sorry to say there is no warranty on tuning due to you enhancing the vehicles performance past the factory's setting.

That's pretty much the price for an AP.

I'd however have the car exactly set up the way I want it before I dump 450 on a dyno session. I'd hate to change some parts downt he line and need to repay that for another dyno session.

I'd use an off the shelf map for the time being. (Free)

Nobody is going to guarantee a tune. It comes with the territory, you mess with stuff you take risk. It's all up to the user.

he said the cobb unit is $695...which you keep...and a tune for your specific car & parts and the all wheel dyno is an extra $450. not a bad deal in my opinion cause your getting a map specifically for you car and your all wheel dyno.

$450 for professional AWD dyno tuning is a pretty affordable gig. If you don't want to drop $450, I think Cobb does e-tunes for $150 or something around there. Not a 100% exact tune, but pretty close.

Like I said, the AP price is the AP price.

If you have it to spend, then go for it. My point is does the mods you have on the car really warrant it? If you are looking for big numbers then dyno it. If you are looking for practical safety, the OTS maps are pretty safe and make good numbers with most common mods people do.

imho, dynos are nice, but they are controlled environments that don't live up to the real world. If I'm paying $450, I want that dude to come to the track with me and tune my s*** there, in the real world. Not with a fan blowing cold air at my intake, hood up, and no elements in the room. Just my .02.

I have amr's tune and am completely satisfied with it...highly recommend them

If your going big turbo none of the OTS maps will work well and youll need a custom tune anyways...

And they dont just strap it to a dyno and tune, they do road testing with your car as well.....so it is real world. also seeing how you are not always driving on a track i dont see the point of tuning there.....

dunno, i'd imagine they'd do both. with the ap you dont have to splice wires n runn piggyback, and since theyre about the same price i'd go for the ap. itll datalog just like the cpe but in excel instead of graphs. and with atr you can tune the car yourself

for anywhere in the northeast, i would highrecommend Rob @ Automaster.... that guy is extremely smart....

in the southeast, Topspeed all the way!
