Need a new engine, looking for help with year compatibility (2016 CX-9)

I have a 2016 CX-9 and need to get my engine replaced (long story). I saw that engines from 2018-2021 seem to be a lot cheaper than 2016-17 and from doing some research, I’ve gotten mixed answers regarding whether using the 2018+ engine in my 2016 would cause any issues. I don’t see why it would, but does anyone have any experience or information on this for me please?

2016 to 2022 long blocks are comparable. As long as you are matching engines. Non deactivating cylinders with non deactivating.
Not sure where you are located but i wouldn't go with a used engine. Only new.
