Nearest Mazda Dealer is 2 hours Away...How Big a Disadvantage?

You're pretty much the only one here that feels that way. I can count on one hand and have 4 fingers left over re: the number of people here that think they bought an "econobox".

True. This is a purists vehicle, and driving for hours on end to get it serviced by the dealer is only to be expected when one purchases such an exotic thoroughbred.

No, not 10K miles for me. Although I use only Mazda moly oil but my own OCI is at 5K ~ 6K miles in around 9~10-month period with about 30% oil life left. I use "Flexible" OCI mainly for my reference only and making sure in line with factory maintenance schedule for factory warranty if anything happens as I change oil longer than required 6-month fixed interval.

I understand for 2017 the Flexible Oil Change screen is no longer showing "%" of oil life left but using "miles" left instead. I think it's confusing and hope Mazda eventually would change it back to "%".

I always do 5K miles. It's a DI engine and it has fuel dilution issues. If I drive a lot on the freeway (road trip), I may extend this interval to 7500 or so, but usually, it's 5K.

Am I the only one that likes my dealer? LOL

No, my dealer is awesome. Polite, good work, affordable, CHEAP, even. Has snacks and drinks and offers a loaner or whatever. I really couldn't ask for anything else.

Having a close dealer is nice though. I forgot a couple weeks ago I needed immediate service due to dashboard brake lights and parking brake all malfunctioning. 10 minute drive and my car was dropped off, and loaner car in my possession. Of course this was a rare incident but an example nonetheless.

My dealer offers sodas galore lol

So because it's not a $70,000 vehicle we can't love them and be enthusiastic about them? We should just settle for a RAV4 because it's closer?

I'm really excited about the diesel coming this fall. I've never owned a Mazda. I currently drive an Acura TL I bought new. I don't understand your attitude.

I sure would, if it was a 2 hour vs. 2 minute drive to a certified dealer. You don't own a CUV because it's sexy or fun. You own it because it's the cheapest way to meet a need. Otherwise you'd have something nicer. Bigger. Faster. Actually luxurious. Etc.

My Mazda dealer is literally 1 minute drive-time, if the traffic light is green. So is the Chevrolet, BMW, and other dealers. If I was looking at that, vs. a brand with a dealer 2 hours away? yeah. Screw that brand. For a daily appliance, anyway. Weekend car? Sure, whatever. Ship it back to Italy for all I care.

My attitude is that this is an appliance. It's reliable, trustworthy, and functional. It's all about convenience at a low cost. Your Acura TL is an upscale Accord, which tells me that either you fell into possession of it, or you also understand the difference between "bare essential" and "luxury". Why not consider an MDX or RDX? has your Acura treated you well?

Also, I would be super leery of a Mazda diesel during its first year in America. They have just now started to figure out DI, and fuel wash is still an issue in the CX5's. You can be the guinea pig, but not I!

Actually, as I've repeatedly said and you should know by now that is exactly why I bought the CX-5.

No. That's why YOU own a CX-5. And that's fine. But don't go all Mango on us and assume you know why people buy these cars.

Nope. I bought what I thought was the best looking. Period. With the features I wanted. A) Blind Spot Monitoring B) Bluetooth C) a bigger back seat. I honestly don't think there's a better looking CUV then the CX-5. The only one I think looks better is the XC60. And that's only because of those wicked Thor's Hammer LED lights. I wasn't spending
$25 grand more for cool lights. I test drove others cars. The CX-5 was the most fun. How many did you test drive again? Oh that's right. None. You wanted cheap and reliable. And that's fine. But don't assume people can't be passionate about thier $25k cars. That's insulting. Hell, there's a strong community built on $15k Civics.

I mean, come on? Gorgeous, right? LOL

A lot of people feel this way about thier cars. Cheap cars...and expensive cars. And that's great. If I felt that way about my car, I wouldn't hang out in a forum. Why do you?
Not being a prick, honestly curious.

I'm pretty excited too...unobs attitude imo while kinda jaded is somewhat reasonable/accurate further explained by his former hipo rides. The cx5 is by no means a thrill ride and I almost went with a santa fe sport on account of space/value and not caring so much about the dynamics/intangibles for this vehicle(I typically keep something rwd and fun in the stable.) When i circled back and tested them driving more aggressively on some twistier stuff the choice was clear..any/all vehicles can and should be good to drive..it does matter and the long drive to once or twice a yr dealer visits (Id probably do some of my own at that point)..still worth it over rav or crv..to me.

7s question about why he chooses to spend time here given his meh feeling toward the cx5 is one i have also.

Volvos are great looking vehicles with great interiors..i gave my blessing on s60 to a colleague..but driving.. they just don't do it for me. The v70r was pretty cool tho;)

I too feel this is just a descent looking throw away car. With that being said it was inexpensive, looks good for its class, descent power, and good gas. Excellent for going to the mountain in winter.

Honda/Acura have become unbearably ugly. The CX-5 is gorgeous. The MDX and RDX are too big and expensive and get crap mileage to boot. $36K or so is not cheap to me. I hope it never seems so.

Is fuel wash still an issue? Its been 4 or 5 years now. You think the tweaks for US are that big a deal?

I'm also an engineer and a sucker for the technical details Mazda shares through Dave Coleman and crew. I buy what they are selling.

id defiantly look into a xc90 if i had $70+K budget. I much rather have one of those then a Range Rover. They look and feel more elegant and i see much less on the road.

Who brought up 36k???

What do you engineer?

Volvo kind of pisses me off, though with the current lineup. It wasn't like this just a few years ago. XC-60 starts at 41-something. Heated Seats not standard. That's an extra $750. Volvo has 8, count 'em 8, option packages for that car. That's a bit ridiculous.

In my opinion, and experience test driving the CR-V, RDX and CX-5, the CR-V and RDX were much more utilitarian in nature - appliance-wise in your speak. My biggest purchasing priorities was fun to drive/handling and bang for the buck. The CX-5 won both over the RDX easily.
