Navigation Audio - No USB Folder list

I recently purchased a 2014 CX-5 GT with Technology Package (top of the line). The main problem I'm having with the touch screen audio unit is when I plugged a USB drive, it doesn't have an option to see the list of folders in it. Because of that its a real pain in the butt to find a song. Is there something that I need to set inorder to be able to see the folders?

you have it plugged in before you start the car right?

that being the case there should be a 'usb' tab at top of screen when you push the 'audio' button, if its reading the usb fine it'll be white and selectable

I think he mean, he cannot find the folders in the USB. Unfortunately that how the unit work, if you search through the forum you'll find lots of people complain about the unit. The unit will look through your USB and list all the songs in a single list not break up into folder like in the computer. You can do a USB list to find your song but this will take some time if you have lots of them. Also notice when you start your car it will play the same first song when you last start your car, quite annoying and also not a real shuffle of songs either. Until Mazda fix it, we're stuck with it or replace the unit.

It's the same unit for Bose and non-Bose right? I cannot see the folders in my USB just one big list of songs.

Had the same issue and posted a workaround in the middle of the HUGE 'radio problems' thread So I'll repost here, where it's more easily found...

Basically, the answer is to use your PC to automatically generate a per-folder playlist in your USB. This is easy, but, unfortunately, a two-step process. The first step is to use a freeware program, sPlaylistMaker, to auto-generate the playlists. However, this program doesn't create the required "#EXTM3U" line at the top of each file, so the Mazda doesn't recognize the playlist. So then I wrote a batch file (attached), that simply opens each playlist and inserts that line. (Whew!)

HAH! UPDATE: I just found out that the author updated (at my request) the latest version of sPlaylistMaker and it now has an option to add the EXTM3U line! Yay. Now only a one step process!

Mine shows folders and plays just fine. Download Foldersort V1.1 and run it against your usb stick.

Nevermind. Found VLC free download online and it did the trick. Not sure why, but creating a playlist using the in house iTunes wm3 file wasn't recognized, but when I did the same using VLC, dropping the playlist into there from the file I had created of the mp3s, then exporting that to my USB drive, it worked flawlessly. Only downside is that it defaults to the first playlist, first song every time I start my car, but I'll live.
