NASA Championships

:
2010 Mazda 6s
The NASA National Championships are tomorrow through Sunday (9/13 to 9/16). I will be driving my MSP in Time Trial E class.

This link is to a live timing and scoring feed where you can follow the action as it is happening. http://drivenasa.com/liveresults

Here are the times I will be driving:
Thursday: 9:35, 1:05 and 4:35
Friday and Saturday: 9:35, 1:20 and 4:50
Complete schedule: http://www.nasachampionships.com/pdf/EventSchedule.pdf

I'll try to provide updates from the track on how everything is going.

I'm going to be at the local track but I'm hoping they have wi-fi so I can keep track of timing and scoring. We finished 2 T1 cars this week and I'm looking forward to the results.

Good luck in time trials! Anyone new this year in TTE?

The guys in 2nd and 3rd are new in the class this year. Dan is the 2006 TTF national champion and Chris is a past SCCA Autocross National Champion:

After the first timed session the top five look like this:
Bill Brees (MSP) 1:43.76
Dan Gardner (Scion TC) 1:44.18
Chris Kline (IS 300) 1:45.03
Mark Freemal (Miata) 1:47.04
Robert Keller (Miata) 1:47.75

I'm pretty sure we'll be in 1:42s by Saturday.

I managed to run a 1:41.7 which was good enough to win the event.

2nd place was Dan Gardner with a 1:43.4
3rd was Chris Kline with a 1:43.7

My car was dynoed and made a peak of 172 hp and an average of 3 consecutive runs of 168 hp. Much less than I expected, but it makes me happy that with some more power the times should drop significantly.

I weighed in a 2779 lbs with me in the car which was exactly 1 pound over my minimum allowed weight!

Congratulations Bill (headbang)

Thats 2 in a row. Way to go!!!!

Like the added effect of you turning on your wipers in your only mishap at the end of the back straight. Makes it look like you had everything under control and even had time to clean your front windshield. HAHAHAHAHA

PS: You posted Chris Kline time as 1:34.7 If so he kicked all your butts. I think it should be 1:43.7

Thanks Dave.

Yes you are right, he ran a 1:43.7

Cool, I looked at mylaps last night and couldn't tell if the 41.7 was the final session or not. Congrats on a second championship!!

Thanks guys.

I'm now in that excited stage waiting for the new ruleset to come out. I haven't had any interest in the car so I will probably keep it. If it doesn't get bumped up too high in the base class I will probably jump to TTD (and hopefully some PTD) with a front mount intercooler, boost controller, forged internals, big front brakes and 245 width tires. With that set-up I could drop a ton of time. I'm already picturing a nice bright blue on the top of the car for a two tone color scheme. I love Titanium for a street color, but not so much for a race car.

Hey Bill,

I was going to ask you, since you were right on the limit of TTE. What your plans for next year were going to be. You answered some of them in your previous post. My question now is what times do you need to run (at Mid-Ohio) to be in the top 3 say in TTD? Do you know what times won that class this year?

TTD was won with a 1:41.1. I would have been 2nd in TTD this year. With the changes, I would expect to get to the 1:38s.

Sweet, you would be back on that top step. How did everyone else from Winking Lizard do this year?

Mark was 4th out of 9 in TTE with a 1:45.9 in his Miata. That was his personal best.
Rob Symonds was last in TTS with a 1:37.1 in his 240SX. His viscous diff is shot and he doesn't have a splitter on the car yet, so he should be a lot faster next year. He had enough power for the vettes but couldn't hang with them in the corners.

(I posted this in the MX6 forum too) Just got back from the NASA National Championships, also. I won the TTF class. If anyone is interested in getting on any road courses, check out your local NASA group www.nasaproracing.com

My car was pretty close to stock, but benefited from:

Hankook Z214 tires
AWR rear sway bar
Cat back exhaust
camber bolts
Carbotech Brake pads
